Are you afraid to die + april/ava au
Ava is smiling. She usually is, actually. Her teeth just a little too sharp, her eyes just a little to dark, her grin just a little too wide. It’s clear in moments like this what she is, even if April couldn’t smell the stink of demonic blood coursing through her veins.
“Are you afraid to die?” Ava asks. She has her celestial blade pressed to April’s stomach, just as April has one to Ava’s throat. “You can kill me, my love, but not without dying yourself.”
And although some would make the sacrifice, April knows she has far too much to be doing here in the hospital, too many people who need her, to risk vanishing on them and further depleting Heaven’s shrinking host. She reluctantly releases Ava, who straightens her clothes and fluffs her hair like this was an inconvenience and not a near death experience.
“Good choice. I know you’re trying to help, but really, I’m the one who saves these people. I give them and their loved ones more time, more healthy time, while your miracles have limits.”
“You steal their souls.”
Ava laughs. “No, I accept offerings, my love.”
She kisses April’s cheek with cold lips, nipping at her jaw as she pulls away, and takes her leave.
