My pair decided to go for the product of Anchor Whipped Cream, as it being a food product it would be cheaper and possibly much easier to make and it's also delicious.
Product: Anchor Extra Thick Squirty Cream
Mission statement: delicious and succulent dairy food thats been in production for 126 years. Great for cakes and desserts.
We had two ideas for this advert:
A girl comes home from food shopping, her friend is coming down the stairs asking if she got the cream. Friend answers her and the other girl is like "great, now we can finally have some cake". They both proceed to sit down and put whipped cream on their cake. One friend eats it normally, whereas the other girl instead squirts the cream into her mouth.
Similar premise as above except the are about to have some cake and tea and one girl asks if they have any whipped cream left as she can't eat her cake without it.
Both have famous 70s pop/disco music playing in the background, as previous anchor adverts have done this.
The feedback we got from the tutor was mostly about the sexual connotations that would be attached to this advert and whether this being something that Anchor would want to advertise. Anyway, the tutor suggested to make it more humorous one of the girls could spray the whipped cream into the other girls mouth, which I decided to use in the final project.
AD BRIEF
The latest project we've had is to do an advert which either promotes a place, service or product. In the first workshop we looked at several adverts which advertised these things. Holidays at Home promoted British Holidays or a place, Honda - The Cog showed the audience all the parts included in a car and using as the main feature for the product, and this advert we didn't actually look at but the Virgin Holidays Rockstar displays a service advert. Additionally, we were shown clips from Mad Men, depicting how we should act when presenting the advertisement. Even though, it's only the advertisement executives that would come up with everything and then the creative industry staff are just hired and told what to do.
For our own advert we were yet again put into pairs and had an our to do these things:
Pick a product, service or place to advertise
Research the brand, their mission statement, brand identity, previous ads, competitor ads and modes of campaign
Review current & past advertisements
During another workshops that inducted us on this project we watched several adverts; analysing them to assist us when we had to do our own adverts.
One of the advert we watched was the Volkswagen Force one. With this commercial, they didn't show the product until the very end and the focus of the advert was nostaglia. As the target audience for the car model would be men who possibly loved Star Wars as a child and wanted to recapture their youth. The class analysed each shot to understand its relevance in the advert and how no shot was exactly the same - either there was a slightly different angle or the camera was zoomed in a little more.
In our pairs we had to then present our idea and pre-production work for the brand we were advertising. For this we had to:
Give a client pitch and schedule presentation
Create a mood board/PowerPoint/Prezi to characterise your target consumer
Finalised advert and schedule
Script, crew, storyboard
