SCARFOLK COUNCIL (2012)
Scarfolk, conceived by artist and writer Richard Littler in 2012, is a fictional dystopian town frozen in the 1970s. Littler's satirical project explores the dark side of nostalgia and critiques authoritarian aspects of British culture. The Scarfolk Council, depicted as the governing authority, is known for its eerie and unsettling aesthetic, blending horror and science in a style termed "hauntology." Through blog posts, books, and visuals, Scarfolk parodies 1970s graphic design, creating a sense of unease and dark humor. The project serves as a commentary on the persistent influence of the past on the present and highlights the potential dangers of nostalgia and authoritarianism
