Adam Cheng as the heroic Master Ding Yan in director Tsui Hark's absolutely bonkers comic book fantasy film Zu: Warriors From the Mystic Mountain (1983), released in the States as Zu: Time Warriors.

Trying to describe this film is darn near impossible because so much happens at such a frenetic pace. Basically, a soldier in 5th Century China deserts from his army and ends up getting embroiled in a battle against a supreme evil entity that wants to destroy the world.

I can't recommend this film enough, and it's well worth watching with friends so you can all ask each other "did that really happen?" every two minutes.

If possible, try to see the original Hong Kong version, without the tacked-on modern day dream sequences that appear in the international and US versions. They serve no purpose other than to slow down the beginning of the film.
