Considering where NASCAR was last week and what happened there in 2000, some of your more recent fics make me only imagine that was what the Petty family was going through after Adam Petty (#45) was killed in a practice crash there.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS RECENTLY.
Like seriously though. I’ve thought and thought about this. They’re a pretty tight, traditional family, so I can’t imagine what they went through other than just pain and anguish. Adam was right on track to carry on the family legacy that Lee, Richard, and Kyle built and added to. I bet the family was a mess. Like, they knew all to well how dangerous racing was, but have a death occur in their family? It was a harsh reminder of the reality of the sport. Gah, it pains me to think about it, and I refrain from researching it because it’s just sad. DX
On a side note, I was considering an AU where this happened to the Weathers family in the Cars universe. Thing is, I’ve cried too much in the last week writing all these angsty fics and I don’t think I’m capable of putting it into words right now. Also I can’t imagine what that kind of tragedy would do to Cal (because I’m modifying the family tree and Adam would be his kid in this case). He’s suffered enough.
