Nautical Summer - anchor-nautical-sailor-flag-abstract-sailing-boat-boating-yacht-sailboat-spinnaker, Adam Collier Noel

This piece was created on a hand-stretched canvas. I use layers of acrylic paint to achieve a rhythm and balance that is pleasing to the eye. The colors that border on one another are carefully chosen and layered in order to create a slight tension with overall harmony. I coat the final piece with several layers of matte medium and finish it with a layer of matte varnish for a look similar to encaustic wax. Typically my work is photography based, so painting is a freeing experience and an exercise in creating an immersive color experience. This particular piece was inspired by the primary color scheme of nautical flags. This large painting is the perfect way to bring luxury into any home or lake house, and can be beautifully displayed vertically or horizontally in any room or above a sofa.

Alchemic Metamorphosis - 48x36-male-figure-figurative-butterfly-butterflies-gold-copper-silver-leaf, Adam Collier Noel

This piece was created from a self-portrait. The collage consists of paper ephemera such as handwritten letters and envelopes. There is acrylic paint and drawing over the paper collage and the portrait was photo transferred on top. Each of the butterflies has gold, silver or copper leaf. The piece is coated with epoxy resin and finished with a matte varnish for a look similar to encaustic wax. The desire to understand myself more as a creative person has yielded a body of work that represents a precarious artistic and emotional journey into an uncharted chapter of my life. These challenges and insights are expressed through a combination of self-portraits, paper ephemera collage, and familiar universal symbols intended to present the viewer with a multi-dimensional and expansive view of my personal mythology. The basis of my mixed media collages are blue prints, road maps, bus tickets, letters of correspondence and various other items of paper ephemera which invoke the nostalgia of a Midwestern upbringing and the roots of my artistic cultivation. Inspiration is derived from the inherent meaning in these documents as well as the images they are paired with. These vintage sales slips, receipts, invoices, etc. serve as a reminder of the importance of paper as a record of human history, but also the fleetingness of a life reduced to ephemeral moments.

The image of Venus is transferred onto a base layer collage of vintage blueprints. The drawing was done in graphite and the pink rectangle & orange line were created with spray paint. The piece has a skim-coat of resin that is finished with a matte varnish. The final surface is similar to encaustic wax.

XXX Waning - 24x48-black-white-twin-pixel-moons, Adam Collier Noel

This piece is an image from a vintage stereoview card from the turn of the last century. The card was scanned, manipulated in Photoshop, and inkjet printed on watercolor paper. There is a hand-applied line of black glitter outlining the craters of the moon. The black glitter XXX is cut from vinyl and floats between two layers of resin. The white 'drawing' was done with a resistance material before it was printed. The piece is finished with a glass-like coating of epoxy resin.
