Day 15.

Same as yesterday!  Wrote like 1400ish I think before work, came home and knocked some more out.  Both writing sessions today were easy because they were dialog driven scenes that, ha, hopefully do a lot for characterization.  How they've changed, and how their relationships have developed into very different things than they started as. UwU

Ah it really hard to pick an excerpt for today because character dialog scenes are the thing that I like to actually write.  I went with two excerpts from the Adam and Dawn scene that show (haha I hope) why I'm really loving how their relationship is developing.

“Adam, wait.” He didn't stop walking down the stairs, but he did slow his pace. She caught up with him and said, “Please let me ride with you. I'll be quiet.”

“I don't want you to be quiet,” he said, frowning. “I don't like when you're quiet. It's not you. I like how you are.”

Her face burned. “I just figured–”

“I just want to be alone.”

“That was– I... You still went in after the salamanders alone, though. That was reckless. Since when do you do stuff like that? We need your rationality, your steadiness. I need it.”

“Yeah, well, everything isn't about you, is it, Dawn?” He turned his head to her, his expression hard. “We all do things for ourselves, for our own reasons. You, too. I don't owe it to you to always be warm and rational.”

Dawn faltered, then leaned forward. “Okay, then. Why did you go at those salamanders alone like that?”

He blinked, obviously not expecting that reaction. He looked away again, and she thought she saw a trace of a smile on his mouth, though he didn't seem happy. “I just... I just didn't care, you know? I figured I'd try my best but if something happened, then, well.”

A few moments passed and Dawn realized her mouth was hanging open slightly. She pressed it closed, frowning. “You have no right to be that selfish when we all need you.”

“Yeah, well–”

“No. No. This isn't the same thing as me being needy and expecting you to cater to me and my little feelings. That's an entirely separate thing, okay?” Her chest hurt. A lot. She leaned so she was looking him in the face, even if he was avoiding making eye contact. Fine, whatever. “You knew better than to encourage Cass go at Keir like that. Adam, you can't just get mopey and let yourself die.” Her voice cracked. “We all need you. We can't fight without you. Your mom can't go on without you.”

His eyes flickered to meet hers. He blinked hard a couple of times, then looked away again.

“And I mean it, about all of us needing your rationality. All of us do something for the team. All of us do a lot of things for the team.” She moved to stand in front of him now. “I mean, yeah. I need that from you, like, you know. Personally.” She squared her shoulders and fought through the warmth creeping over her ears. “But I mean I need those things from you on my team, too. I... It's a separate thing, it is.”

His hands found hers, arms hanging loosely between them. He was staring down at their hands, not moving a muscle for a while.

“Adam...”

“I'm so comfortable with you,” he said in a low voice, still motionless. “Like, I don't feel weird telling you to, like, get over yourself or whatever. And it almost feels good when you do the same to me. It never feels like you're being a jerk.”
