It’s amazing when an author so clearly (if subtly) writes a cruel, manipulative, and dangerous character A only for most of the readers to see them as weak in comparison with this other character, character B, who’s in love with showing off what they can do (with a knife, their brain or whatever), esp., if the said two characters are romantically involved.
