wanted 2 show off the logo + cabinet art since they're warped in the finished piece! if i didn't rush these out last minute i probably woulda gone harder with them, but i'm proud for what they are
more insight under the cut
like last year, i wanted to draw something inspired by the song cabinet man for christmas eve and- much alike last year- i also only started drawing late at night on christmas eve
i wanted a fun palette again, and this time i had the bright idea of limiting it to strictly the colours that could be displayed on an older game console. i picked the sega master system for this
seems like a whole lot of colours until you're actually using it. i think most of the time i spent working on this was messing with the colours. i wasn't allowing myself any deviation from the palette and was colouring (and adjusting) as i went. don't do this
i think the idea for the cabinet art is pretty clear. crime scene 👍
that idea was also in last year's piece but much more subtle. reeeal on the nose this time. the art i used was originally just gonna be a concept before doing a more refined version but nope! it was really late and i wanted it done before i slept, so didn't make any other concepts and cleaned up that one
only sketch i've got is that second pic
also having a 2 in there wasn't me being clever and going "hehe this is my second cabinet man let's add a 2 in here". i saw numbers when i googled crime scene chalk outline, started drawing a 1, didn't like it, drew a 2 instead
didn't use a font for the logo! i took mild inspiration from the lettering on a real arcade machine, but it's completely handwritten. i just get real particular about the writing in my art. i'm weirdly proud of how clean it came out
i did the cabinet art and logo first, and then pieced the parts together and built the rest around it. like a weird box
Superman and Batman can't decide if they're best friends, mortal enemies or just friends with benefits. (Rewatching Justice League and all the animated series with new eyes. The writers really shipped Superbat.)
//A little something macabre and low-key unnerving for Weird O'Clock. Enjoy, Pumpkin. :)
WARNING: Don’t watch this if you’re easily disturbed.
This was really relaxing to watch for me, actually. It’s relatively tame and thought-provoking. It makes me think about who builds us and if we are our own creators, how connected we are as minds and the use of the keyboard and screens resonated with the digital age.
Also his work usually touches me in that it’s similar to the kind of stuff I dream about usually. Definitely in a poetry writing mood.
