“What’s a megitsune?” Stiles asks, smiling even though the word reminds him of the fox spirit that possessed him. He always finds Kira’s enthusiasm contagious.
Kira snorted, cheeks flushing when Stiles asked her about what a Megitsune was. “Basically, it’s what Lydia wanted me to be to seduce Liam to go to a party that wasn’t actually a party. Remember? ‘Be a vixen’. Anyway, to answer your question more in-depth...” Completely losing herself as she quickly launched into explanation, Kira would often hold eye contact with Stiles for a long while, only breaking her gaze with him to look at her hands as she used them to emote and explain.
“Megitsune is apart of Japanese folklore that tells us foxes can change into anything and deceive people, tricksters you see... maybe even fitting to call them teases, casting an illusion when really their acts were misinterpreted. Everything is not what it seems. Sure they may be alluring, desirable to the men who watch them and their acts taken as one thing when really it’s not how they were meant to be conveyed, mind you the word is also generally only applied to females. Shouldn’t leave that detail out, but yes-- Megitsune is more commonly applied to females than it is males, which you’ll rarely ever find.” It feels as if she hadn’t stopped talking, not to mention it felt like she had so much to say about it too. Continuing on with her explanation, Kira lifted her gaze again to make sure Stiles had been paying attention and following along. Making sure his face wore an expression of understanding verses confusion.
“For example...let’s say a man who was deceived by a prepossessing woman right? Thinking the way she’s acting around him, cunning, sweet...charming. You’d think someone was into you, maybe even loved you if they were acting such ways around yourself right? Right. Which gives off the illusion that they, the ‘Megitsune’ in this situation wants you. But that’s not the case at all, in fact they probably don’t want you at all or share any significant feelings towards the person either. It’s just their nature. So when they’re found out of course the man in these scenarios are going to feel bamboozled, gypped and left feeling like they’ve been deceived of what could have been and accused the girl of making him out to be a fool.... But she is not to blame because she had no intention to deceive but is just too much charming.”
Pulling her eyes away from Stiles once more where she finally took a breath, smiling that she had explained it, Kira of course felt it necessary to give him a little spark note like explanation. “Basically, it’s the Japanese way to call a charming girl a ‘tease’ because the woman shattered their mold of what a woman in love with them should look like just because they’re nice, charming or friendly.”
