@petals42 does not like pineapple on pizza, and this is a sad fact that was initially a roadblock to the depths of our friendship.  Which was not initiated through hazing.  This is a lie.  Do not believe Petals.  But all jokes aside, I’m super, super glad that we became friends.  I am in love with just about everything she writes, and her omgcp headcanons have been killing me, lately.  But also Petals is just really, really chill and easy to talk to, and she’s a pretty great person to talk to when fandom is getting to be Too Much.

My personal theory is that if Media is REALLY good, there isn't really... space, if you will for fans to add or change perspectives on it. Too dense, too complete. Like how coral won't grow on plastic because it's too smooth

Whereas some half-baked hot garbage has got ALL KINDS of plot holes, incomplete characterization, warped timelines, missing worldbuilding and other Spaces for fans to colonize, like coral growing on a sunken battleship.

And then if a series just sucks too much, it's not fun to interact with at all, and people won't fandomize it because it's toxic. Like how coral won't grow on sunken piles of burnt-out tires.

I call this the Fandom Barrier-Reef Theory.

Another thing I've been thinking about is CH!Gemma's decision to go with Mark, a man she doesn't know who comes into her room, covered in blood. And a lot of takes seem to be talking about how maybe a sliver of their love made it through the bond or transferred somehow and that led her to trusting him. which is nice and all but--

But what I really think her decision comes down to is the human need for history and story. like, again and again, lumon fail to see that innies are people--even this new CH!Gemma innie who has been alive for all of... 30 minutes? less?? she's a PERSON, a human being!. and maybe it's about human beings having this innate desire to know their history and their story.

and so when Mark comes in, that's what he offers her. lumon has given her nothing but orders over a loudspeaker that they expect her to obey because they think they have stripped away all emotion but humanity is storytelling-- that is still in there. Mark comes in and he immediately offers her her own history. he immediately calls her her name, he comforts her, he introduces himself -"it's me. i'm your husband." and MOST importantly he tells her about HERSELF, giving her a history and story-- "Your name is Gemma Scout. We've been married for four years. We were--we had a life together." and so then when he asks her to leave with him, she does.

because he's offered her her own story and her own history and that is what humans really crave. maybe that's what defines us.

also the fact that drummond is killed on accident in the elevator due to the muscle spasms of the innie/outie switch-- the process is VIOLENT and is always violent and is always a death and for once it happened to lumon upper management rather than staff. the metaphor. i love it.

i cannot get over that lumon's downfall so much came down to the focus on the innies' (collective) humanity that lumon tries so hard to suppress, but honestly and actually is their BIGGEST blindspot. Like the goat lady just being fucking SICK of killing her goats and that's such a human thing-- to get attached to your pets, to not want to just live your life raising creatures to be killed for no reason and lumon thought that the innies weren't human (maybe especially the goat innies), that they would buy the shit they were selling because they are naive and believe what they're told and don't have critical thinking skills because they not human but they are human! they dont believe whatever weird cult stuff they are being told! she doesn't even know what the fuck is going on with, mark really, she just sees her chance to get back at the guy that keeps making HER kill HER goats! her pets! Her little guys who love and trust her!!

Like honestly, imagine if lumon had just put a LITTLE more care into keeping the goat-innies not even "happy" but at least oblivious to what was going on. If they asked for a goat and Drummond just killed it himself. The goat people could have lived in plausible deniability! which like, when it comes down to it, is how most of us live but NO! No Lumon is OBSESSSED with control and think severance is the ultimate control and so they are completely unprepared for when the innies are PEOPLE and don't want to be controlled!

So I was reading through the comments of Longer by Far after finishing it, and you mention there that your original plan was for Jenny to be evil? That is so far from what she ended up being! What were your plans for her at the start? And what made you change your mind?

I am so sorry, I cannot answer this ask. I have NO IDEA why or how I would make Jenny evil. I remember that in the show (maybe??) there was an evil Jenny, so some people were confused and thought my Jenny would be evil but honestly I think I just picked the wrong random name for my OC.

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
