As requested on Twitter, here's two of my other ZP Sims, Addison and Jack. I do have invisible clothes stuff for Jack, but it makes his waist clip really badly... so I kinda just end up using a baggy shirt for him like with Damian.
Random ZP Thought Again
This is something that occurred to me in the shower (shower thoughts, Y’know?)
Let me cut the fluff and get to the point- is there a parallel (intentional or otherwise) between Addison and Mackenzie?
(From arc 3 in comic)
So here’s where my heads at
It first started off as me thinking that Addison really doesn’t like Mackenzie. And I’m not just talking about him attacking her in arc 5. In 3, leaving the film club, not only does he look uncomfortable at the thought of her joining, he does the thing sassy kids do when it comes to people they don’t like, “why does she even come here?” And then Kenzie is sad. Could it be the club leaving her behind, could it be Addi’s comment, both? Who knows.
But here’s the interesting thing. I’m sure other people have noticed that Addi and Kenzie share a lot of similarities. They’re both victims of bullying and are given shit for being “weird” in some form. They’re both raised by loving moms that adopted them. They’re both argumentative when people give them shit (Addi vs Rusty, Kenzie vs Gustav in arc 2). They also both like art, that too I suppose.
But where they differ in their situations is that… Addi is actually liked. Not only that, but his actions are never given the same reactions as Kenzie’s are. Take the reactions to Addi attacking Kenzie, arguing with Rusty, and his interaction with Tom. Now compare them to Kenzie trying to stand up against Gustav at the talent show auditions, and her hissing at people.
Mackenzie never seems to be given the benefit of the doubt the same way Addison seems to. While it’s not clear why yet, maybe it’s bc the teachers know of Addison’s past so they’re more forgiving, who knows. BUT!
I still find Addison’s reactions to Mackenzie interesting. In his character information stuff, Addi is said to be coming out of his shell, but he’s not exactly a social butterfly. You’d think he’d get it when it came to Kenzie. He very well could have experience stuff similar to what she does, possibly still currently experiences it now. But his reaction to Kenzie seems to be one of annoyance rather than sympathy.
It’s even more strange when you consider the people Addi hangs out with. Damian is one of his best friends, and he’s done far worse things than Mackenzie has ever done (at least from what we can see). Gustav is generally a dick to a lot of people, but Addi’s dating him. What about Mackenzie illicites this kind of response from Addison?
Well, I don’t know.
But if I had to guess, I think it’s because Addi is experiencing what we all do when we see something that reminds us of the embarrassing parts of ourselves.
Cringe.
Mackenzie is seen as the bigger loser of the two, and Addi, who would probably prefer to not ever be compared to the school’s biggest loser, takes that to make himself seem better, or more acceptable. Like, “yeah I know I’m different, but at least I’m not like THAT.”
And we end up with an interesting parallel. Kenzie and Addi are similar, but one is loved and praised for his abilities while the other is insulted and overlooked. We know from Kenzie’s bio that she’s not untalented. But she’s never given the recognition that Addi does.
That’s all I have for now, but if there’s anything anyone wants to add, like how that would affect the relationship between Kenzie and Tom, or anything else .
I apologize for wasting your time,
