There’s literally no other way to describe last night’s concert (well - mind blowing came to mind as well)
Before we start: I have to admit, I didn’t get the tickets for myself. I got them for my mum because she adores Adele and I thought why not tag along? It might be fun (getting the tickets wasn’t. Sold out after ten minutes, holy SHIT)
Well, I am sold. The woman from Tottenham won my heart and owns my ass now. Congratulations!
Anyway, back to the review!
We were at the arena rather early due to my mum coming up from Munich but it didn’t matter anyway because we were seated (Premium seats, y’all!) and didn’t have to worry about getting front row.
As I’ve already mentioned, it was actually fordbidden to bring cameras but of course, some of us (cough cough) had to sneak them in. I mean, I got some brilliants pictures out of it, so it was definitely worth it.
I was a bit worried if I was able to catch my train because I would’ve hated to miss another great finale. Luckily, the show ended on time although there were a lot of fans on stage which - of course - involved a lot of selfies.
Until the show started, the screen showed Adele’s closed eyes (with perfect winged eyeliner, I was JEALOUS) which creeped me out a bit, to be honest. But it had a higher purpose.
At 8.05 pm, it started echoing Hello through the arena and everyone began woo-hoo’ing. I thought she was going to start the show on the main stage but NO! Suddenly, she was standing in the middle of the room, blasting her hit song like it was nothing - And we completely lost our shit.
Now, I have to say there isn’t much variation when it comes to the setlist. You can look it up online (like I did, so I’d know when to film and when to just enjoy the show) and you’ll see songs like Hometown Glory, One and Only or Don’t You Remember on it. What the internet doesn’t tell you is how much she actually interacts with the crowd.
After Rumour Has It (I love that song, oh gosh, I DO), fans took it into their own hands to make Adele notice them - And she did!
After a bit of banter, she got to the (mostly seated) crowd and hugged a small guy who apparently made “the biggest banner she’s seen so far”. She also brought a look-a-like from Israel on stage to take selfies with them - It was so very adorable. Somehow, she was able to connect to the whole room by being her lovely self and also, by cursing and talking about how much she loved drinking because, well, who doesn’t? (She did joke about getting her birthday dinner with a recovering alcoholic which - apprently, to her - wasn’t fun at all. I didn’t find it so funny, to be honest, but well.. everyone’s favorite is a bit problematic, it makes them human I guess)
The show continued with songs like Water Under The Bridge, Skyfall (this one was for the dads who got dragged along by their teenage daughter.. or sons. I smiled.) or Million Years Ago. Now, as people who follow my main blog know, I had to move to go to college and to be honest, I hated everything about it. So Million Years Ago with its heartbreaking lyrics about regrets and lost teenage years hit home and left me in a puddle of tears. I swear to God, you can hear me sniffle while recording the performance (my mum didn’t quite get why I was crying but, to be fair, she doesn’t understand English very well. I think I need to translate the song for her)
Although I have to admit that Adele did warn us by saying she barely sings happy songs because she lets out her sadness by writing and recording those sad songs. But it’s okay because we “can all be miserable together” (have I mentioned before that I love her? Because I do.)
But yesterday was a happy day for quite a lot of people - As mentioned before, Adele’s big on fan interaction and she actually got a whole group from Poland on stage that was allowed to take selfies with her. And another selfie. Aaaaaaaand another selfie. She seemed a bit annoyed in the end, but really, what was she expecting? They came all the way from Poland to see her (we had people from all over the world there, actually - Australian and Japanese and Brazilian and German fans united. It was wonderful), brought her flowers AND made the WHOLE arena sing Happy Birthday to Adele as well!
I think they deserved every picture they got with her.
The last four songs before the encore were sung on the B stage that was standing in the middle of the room and after Chasing Pavements, you could hear Adele say “You’ve got a ring?”
And at this moment I knew, I was fucked.
I’ve seen videos of proposals on stage before - the last one being in Copenhagen at Adele’s concert - and I knew I would completely and utterly lose my shit if something like this happened at my show.
And guess what! IT DID HAPPEN!
Right before Adele was able to sing Someone Like You (a crowd pleaser, she made us sing along, heh), two bro-pal-dudes from Florida, US came on stage. One of them kneeled down and I couldn’t even hear the question (neither could Adele, apparently because she asked if the boyfriend said Yes) but by seeing Adele’s OMG I’m such a proud godmother of proposals face I and the rest of the arena knew he’s said YES!!
I was the one crying happy tears at that moment.
So - naturally - Adele dedicated Someone Like You to the happy couple, congratulating them again and saying she was so happy for them.
The last song before the encore was Set Fire To The Rain and I knew there was gonna be rain involved. My mum insisted it wouldn’t be real and they’d use the projection surface hanging from the ceiling but! She was wrong.
The crew made it rain on stage with Adele standing in the middle of an apparent rainstorm.
I kid you not, my jaw dropped to the floor and the video I took of her performance is breathtaking. She looked like a goddess that was able to control the rain with her powerful voice and I both couldn’t have asked or couldn’t have loved her more.
After leaving us speechless, it was time for the encore, blowing us away one last time (or three times in her case). I was completely taken by surprise when she sang All I Ask, When We Were Young and (another crowd pleaser, it BLEW my mind!) Rolling In The Deep which is the reason I chose the encore to be one of my surprises of the evening.
Like I said in the beginning, the show ended on time with me being able to catch my train and cry a bit more on my way home.
I am forever grateful I got my mum tickets to see her and hopefully, I’ll be able to get tickets when she’s back again ♥ (also, biggest shout out to my mum for singing so flat during Someone Like You, you’re the real MVP)
Favorite songs: Million Years Ago & Set Fire To The Rain.
