posting this just in time for LN12 to possibly render them all completely impossible! :D
TLDR: Katarina looks a lot like her cousins and all four of them look like their Adeth grandfather; the Adeth girls have a definite type; I have lots of fun making up names.
Leto Adeth, Duke of Adeth: Father of Miridiana, and looks very like her - dark hair, pale blue eyes, sharp-featured face. Childhood friend of Lucan Claes, Luigi’s father, and close to him until a certain incident. Known as the “Wolf of the North”, and now “the Old Wolf.” Highly intelligent, sardonic, and possibly the most battle-tested noble in the kingdom. Dotes on his daughters. All his descendants, except Katarina, inherited his wind magic. (Name derived from Leto, mother of Diana and Apollo; I mean, how can I pass up the chance to insert a Duke Leto into the story)
Dione Adeth: Miridiana’s mother. A gentle, but eminently practical woman, widely known for her beauty and her skills as chatelaine for her husband. Pale-haired and green-eyed. Died before Miridiana met Luigi. (Name derived from feminine version of Zeus, father of Diana)
Hekatya ‘Katya’ Adeth: Eldest of the three daughters. Looks like her mother just as Miridiana looks like her father. Calm, even-tempered, and hiding a sharp memory and sharper mind behind perfect manners. Adores her younger sisters. Will and has killed for her sisters’ sakes. Both her younger sisters are strongly reminded of their gentle, sickly - at the end - mother and have always tried to protect their elder sister. Katya finds this adorable and loves it when they try, and uses this tendency to maneuver her sisters away from danger. Regards Luigi with hidden contempt but, unlike her sister Luna, is very polite and friendly to him. (Name derived from Hekate, part of the goddess triad with Diana)
Seamus Adeth: Hekatya’s husband. Originally from a lower-ranked noble family, adopted the Adeth surname when marrying Hekatya. Their marriage contract explicitly states he will never be Duke, even before the family decided to make their son Hal the ducal heir, much to Seamus’s contentment and his family (House Mortimer)’s dismay. Seamus is not ambitious, and frankly acknowledges his wife whom he openly adores as the leading figure in their marriage, quite happy to follow her directions. Blunt, boisterous and good-tempered. Blond with blue eyes. An excellent camp-cook.
Byhal ‘Hal’ Adeth: Hekatya’s eldest son; looks a lot like his grandfather. Dark-haired like Katarina and Miridiana, green eyes the same shape as his grandfather’s. Keeps a very tight rein on his temper, can be somewhat snarky, and very competent. A bit of what Katarina might call an ‘adrenaline junkie’ but hides it very, very well. Heir to the Adeth duchy. Wears glasses. Three years older than Katarina.
Lunabela ‘Luna’ Alnwick: Youngest daughter. (Name derived from Luna, part of the goddess triad with Diana; bela for white.) The Adeth family baby and charmer, with all the best features of her parents mixed together to produce ‘the White Moon of Adeth.’ Blue-eyed like her father and Miri, but what looks intense and wolf-like in them is softened to startlingly gorgeous in her. Vivacious, friendly, and laughing - like her older sister Hekatya, hiding her actual competence behind a mask, this time of a sweet lady. Although ordinarily the most diplomatically adept of the three sisters, she is open about her dislike of Miridiana’s ‘feckless, roving husband’ and continually urges her beloved big sister to come home to the North. Luigi fears her.
Gilbert Alnwick: Earl of Alnwick, husband to Luna. Blue-eyed blond with a winning smile and a wild youth (shenanigans-wise, not regarding women). Surprisingly devout and fond of tales of knighthood.
Saexon ‘Saex’ Alnwick: Heir to Alnwick, elder twin. Like his cousins, resembles his grandfather strongly; has the Adeth blue eyes. Mischievous, witty, and fond of a romp. Likes swordfighting and hunting. Has the same enormous appetite as his brother but will try to hide this in front of company.
Renard ‘Fox’ Alnwick: Younger twin, identical to and inseparable from his brother. The twins are three years younger than Katarina. As the youngest and not an heir, he plans to become a knight and his brother’s right hand in running Alnwick. Can devour kilograms of meat and potatoes in one sitting. Has to be urged to eat his vegetables. Is a touch more daring and hasty than his brother but Saex is more likely to be convinced by Fox’s ideas of fun than for Fox to be reined in by Saex.
