............................. is Chase's name Chade because he 'chases' villains?
Was thinking more about my Dispatch AUs and fic ideas and my mind turned specifically to Chase.
I've decided that, something that will always be universal in any AUs of mine is that Chase will never hate Robert and will always forgive him and accept him back into his life. How quickly and easily may differ, but it will always happen, because Chase's easy forgiveness of Robert says far more about Chase as a person than Robert.
Yeah, you could argue that Chase only forgives Robert so easily because he was there to see his damage as a child and so knows Robert shutting him out wasn't personal, but then I point to the Invisigal situation. Chase never stops talking about how badly he looks down on the Z-team and Invisigal especially and how they're all better off in the garbage, but when her life is truly at risk, he easily and willingly puts his own on the line to go and save her. Because, ultimately, that is who Chase truly is.
He may be snarky and insulting and grumpy and swear like a sailor, but he is a good hero and a kind person who cares a whole lot. Heck, his attitude is completely understandable considering his situation, and I'm not even talking just about the rapid aging thing. Lots of people talk about how young Robert was when he became hero after his dad's death, but Chase was also a young hero. The reason he came to know Robbie to become Robert's babysitter is because he was already a hero and a member of the Brigade. So, while a little different because Chase had a team while Robert was alone, there's a lot of that that has to have impacted him and his state of mind and way of relating to others over the years. Heck, while I don't know all the exact details cause I just read the wiki summary of it, the way that he, as a much, much younger teammate, had to multiple times try and mediate between Robbie and Shroud also had to have had a huge effect on him.
But still, he chooses to help, he chooses to be a good person, he chooses to put his life on the line to help even those he hates. And every time, he chooses to forgive Robert.
