“A Dime a Dozen”
(idiom) extremely common and/or of little value
Henry’s mentor told him that ideas are a dime a dozen; it’s the execution that sets people apart.
We toss around the phrase a dime a dozen whenever something is so plentiful it has lost its value: mediocre managers, cookie-cutter startups, opinions on the internet. But where did it come from?
The origin is refreshingly literal. In 19th-century America, a dime was a modest but meaningful coin, and vendors would advertise bulk goods (e.g., eggs, apples, oranges) at twelve for ten cents to signal an incredible bargain. The phrase first appeared in print around the 1930s, though the concept had been circulating in American speech for decades prior. Over time, the meaning quietly flipped: what started as great value for money evolved into so common it’s worthless. Abundance, it turns out, is the enemy of worth.
The idiom reflects a deeply human anxiety—that anything too easy to obtain can’t be that special. We see the same logic in how we talk about talent (“good writers are a dime a dozen”), credentials, or even relationships in the age of dating apps.
So the next time someone calls your idea a dime a dozen, take it as a challenge: in a world flooded with the ordinary, genuine originality is the only thing that never goes on sale.

When you try to bring people aboard after they ask to be part but as soon as you do you instantly realize that they wasnt worried about building with you..... They was just about that bottom dollar...not residuals not long term funds.. Oh well... Im looking to build with others and pay them but im not paying an arm and a leg and an ear to a photog when im putting together the shoot, the concepts , the styling , finding the mua and coaching it!!?? Nah ill pass. My grams said cant nobody take advantage of you unless you let em.... I aint letting them!!! Just like these #models. #Photogs yall need to build your #brand. Get a #website etc. And #market properly. Then maybe steady income will come and you wont have to bust heads because of it. Most ive ran into have none of that just a camera , no photoshop(ive ran into a few)and charging $200 an hour!!! But get upset that models do the same... Do better ughhh. Ive contacted photogs and even about biz and #money and no response. No one wants to build anymore. Just want that quick buck!!! Im over it . if i contacted you on biz and you dont respond etc. No need to now. I know who #hungry and who just #thirsty now.... We all can bring benefit to this world the problem is when not everyone see it that way. #ADimeADozen #TheRoleModelCoach
UPDATE ON THE ‘THACverse’ stuff
The series has been given a name, ‘adimadozen.’
We are still very much in the planning stages, though. Please wait for more updates. (There may also be a teaser soon! :P)
adimeadozen MASTER POST
AS A SIDENOTE: THIS IS NOT RELATED TO THAC. THIS IS MADE BY PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT TROY, JOSEPH, TIM OR NOAH. Thank you.
This is a Work in Progress! Sorry!
Okay. So, during one of Noah’s streams, some people came up with an idea: What if THAC/Marble Hornets fans created their own series? Not something Slender Man related, but still paranormal.
(3-21-15) Edit: adimeadozen is now the official name of the series!
The basis of the series is that characters are being followed by an entity. Each character resides in a different universe, not too different from our own. This entity takes a different form/reincarnation and appears different in each universe. The entity’s motive remains the same throughout the universes, as do its abilities (I’m assuming). The characters can interact with each other only through a certain point in their own universe where things from other universes can be teleported. The audience is free to interact with them regardless of this. (Summary by dreamerwinter)
