Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, I tried to look but mobile sucks and I just started following so I haven't seen it answered before. What counts as 'underrated'? Is it enough if we haven't seen people talking about it or do the number of goodreads reviews factor in or whatever? if 2k people have rated something on a popular book rating site, can it really be said to be 'underrated'?
We are brand spankin’ new so you haven’t missed much no worries! Ultimately “underrated” is determined at your discretion. A book needn’t be obscure to qualify.
For example, my favorite book is The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. I know people have read it, it currently has 21,751 ratings on Goodreads and over 4,000 reviews. There’s some art, moodboards, and reviews floating around, but many times, talking about it on tumblr feels like screaming into the void. I think it’s underrated for that reason.
Whereas an easy contrast is Six of Crows, another favorite, which has a healthy fandom that continually engages and creates new content daily. Six of Crows as a book and duology is so well-loved it’d feel incredibly false to call it underrated.
Again, it’s up to you to make that call. Some books are more obviously underrated than others, but we’re not going to critique anyone’s choices.
Hopefully this helps! If it does not, let us know and we’ll happily further clarify.
