Why do they make it seem like Fiona got turned gay by having an abusive boyfriend? Is that how it happens?

I don’t feel like writing in the tags for this one so forgive me. But degrassi imo has always done a poor job at writing sapphic relationships and characters. They had two off the bat lesbian characters (Rasha & Jack jones), both were closeted and arguably only there to be the girlfriends of more “important” characters. The three main characters who had wlw relationships didn’t start off being confident in their sexuality and ALL figured it out after abuse from a man. Think about Paige, Fiona and Zoe all having eerily similar stories. The show isn’t criticized enough for this!! - Admin Nick

It seems that Jiberty is too complex a ship for many of the fandom to see and that’s the shows fault for not showing that on the screen. It truly is a ship for those who can read between the lines and don’t need everything spelled out directly.
