it’s always “i love you” and not *grabs vial of possibly poison out of your hands and downs it because they trust you so much*
The season 2 finale of the CW's Nancy Drew will always be so famous to me because Nancy is so loved, and feels that love so intensely that when she's at her most vulnerable and can't fight off the wraith, her mind conjures up her friends to come to her defense.
For the darkest version of herself, the one that is actively seeking to harm her, it conjures her George, her biggest protector, the one who isn't afraid to push her. She takes out the version of Nancy who only wishes her harm, prompts her to remember her own strength, and gives her the tough love she needs to keep going.
Bess serves as her voice of reason, encouraging her to think rather than let the panic set in. She is calm and collected, forcing Nancy to slow down and reflect, not letting her get sucked into the trap in her mind. She stands next to the younger version of Nancy, holds her hand and helps defend and make sense of the choices she made, and understand the path she chose.
Nick is there when she gets stuck; he can't be the one to pull her out, but he is a strong and abiding force of comfort and support that reminds her that she survived the hardest thing she ever had to go through, and that she has the strength to continue even after addressing that memory. And he's still there for that version of Nancy that couldn't see a way out, even when she has to leave that memory.
And for her final memory, the version of herself that is most vulnerable, she sees Ace. Who understands her better than anyone, who believes that love can heal all wounds, and reminds her of her own power and authority over the trauma she has been letting rule her for her whole life. He is her anchor, and he holds her at her most vulnerable, allowing her to take on the wraith and regain control.
I love this episode because it really shows the power of letting people in and letting light in. She ultimately overcame everything on her own, her friends weren't really in the dreamscape with her, but she had such strong positive and loving influences in her life that she was able to use those to pull her through.
You were lying. What? You do have feelings for me. This could have been written by anybody. How many order tickets have you written me at The Claw? I know your handwriting.
