Was that ELIZA SCANLEN I just saw walking down the hallways? Oh wait, no - that was ALECTO CARROW. The CIS-FEMALE is a/an 19 year old SYTHERIN who is in 9TH YEAR. I heard the PUREBLOOD has chosen to SIDE WITH THE DEATH EATERS which explains why SHE is/are CHARMING and ADAPTIVE, but also CRUEL and OBSESSIVE. But who really knows? (ooc: gracie/24/she/her/est)
It was a Sunday, the first after the New Year and the cold was biting, even the magical fire could not keep the chill from the stone walls of the castle. Alecto was born one minute after her brother, one minute younger, but much smaller. The Carrow’s were old fashioned, traditional they would say, and likely had not realized they were having twins until the second child came. She was much smaller and weaker than her brother, many thought she would not make it. But Alecto, much like the fury she was named after, born of blood and pain, would not go with out a fight. She clung to life in these first few months the way she would later dig her nails into everything that struck her obsessive nature.
Perhaps it was that she did not have to fight alone, she had Amycus for strength. In these early years she was always at his side, or trailing close behind. The twins roamed the property, always together, sharing every thought and moment. They played in the shadows, quiet whispers in that hauntingly large castle, every secret shared. As they got older, the secrets got darker, but still, Amycus was told nearly every thought Alecto had. They were one soul in two bodies, always eerily in sync. She was sure their parents questioned more than once if it was healthy for the twins to be that close. But they’d long been taught blood was thicker than water, and the blood of a shared womb was even thicker.
Prestige, legacy, dynasty. These words filled the hallowed halls of the Carrow castle, whispered with scorn towards lesser families at dinner parties, spoken with pride in the parlor, but always always attached to their name. Alecto grew up knowing her worth as a Carrow, as a pureblood, as Amycus’s twin. But never as important as him, always second, and always in her brother’s shadow. He was the golden child, the heir every purist family needed. She was an addition, unneeded and overlooked. Still, she did everything she could to win their approval, and felt the pain of their silent neglect. He was taught from an early age to harness the darkness inherited with the castle and the old Carrow line. She was shut out of these lessons, but later - her brother would come share every whispered curse and old text learned from their father.
A name is a heavy burden, and with one full of fury and history, Alecto felt it acutely. She became a perfectionist young, the ideal little lady, wanting to please everyone, to mean as much to her parents as Amycus did. She stayed quiet, it was easy in those young days to be what people expected of her. Mistakes were not costly, and she always had Amycus. Early on she stayed in his shadow in the eyes of the world, like a girl should. Alecto always knew she was his equal, and he treated her as such, still society and especially her parents, put Amycus first.
Their eleventh year brought new beginnings through school. Alecto never doubted her own power, or her own value. But on that first night, while the rest of her year trembled slightly under eyes of the school, Alecto stood still, hand bushing against her twin’s for a moment. Tonight, she was called first, A-L coming before A-M, just barely, but it was something. She was the first Carrow called, he would be her twin in the eyes of those who did not know them, not the other way around. It was strange, and she did not realize its significance until later that night alone in her bed, but Alecto was utterly calm under the hat, a fitting snake. Amycus joined her of course, a moment later, but something in her shifted that night. Alecto began to change, pulling away from her brother just enough to grow into her own person.
Alecto was good at school because she had no choice but to do well in order to stand out to her parents. Incredibly driven and organized, she found a way to make spells work for her, not through theory but repetitive practice. Her obsessive nature helped, and she was a perfectionist at heart. Every moment planned and controlled, she used her learned charm and people pleasing to gather popularity. Manipulation followed charm and her easy smile and soft voice convinced people to believe her. Lies and secrets were always a part of the Carrow house, and Alecto made that her currency.
The first time she took a life, Alecto was a week shy of seventeen but already yearning for the freedom being of age would bring. It was an accident, she would later say, faking sobs surprisingly well as the outer building burned. She hadn’t known the homeless muggle was living there, how could she know? She was simply trying to practice the curse to prove she was worthy. Her father seemed to find every moment dealing with his seemingly panicked daughter more torturous than the plight of the man who’d burnt to death inside the shack. A quick backhand across her face, and he was gone, leaving the twins to clean up the mess Alecto had made. Amycus knew the tears were fake, just as he caught the flash of something in her eye as the fire slowly raged. Just as he had known everything about her for every minute of his existence, Amycus knew it wasn’t an accident.
* Boggart: - the death of her brother, or even worse - his disappointment in her and abandonment.
* Patronus: Alecto isn’t capable of producing a patronus, but if she were it would be a Fox.
* Quidditch: she hates quidditch
* Clubs: Dark Arts Club, Slug Club
* Prefect: N/a
* Major: History of Magic. A perfectly acceptable major for a perfect pureblood girl, she was turned away from DADA or any of the more magic heavy majors, her parents insisting she not waste her or anyone else’s time pretending that she was capable. History is non-threatening, yet interesting enough to provide entertainment for her future husband/his guests. And as much as she’s loathe to admit it, Alecto loves history and stories so it is a natural fit.
* Wanted Connection: N/A
* Anything else?:
