Hello. Do you think I am making the right decision to drop some activities in favor of academics? I want to transfer to Berkeley or LA and my counselor told me that if I maintain good grades (nothing less than a B) and continue with the Honors program I should have a good chance.

Maintaining high grades while you’re at community college should be your primary objective, so dropping a few activities shouldn’t affect you adversely. You can keep some activities as long as those activities don’t impede you from maintaining high grades and a competitive GPA.

The UC transfer admission process is much more grade-centric than that of the UC freshman admission process. Anecdotally, both our individual transfer experiences seem to indicate that this is the case. UC Berkeley has also indicated on their transfer flyer that GPA, grade trends, and the completion of general education/major prep are areas the admissions committee will be paying more attention to than the rest of your application, although this doesn’t mean you should ignore those other areas.

Let the rampant, unfounded speculation begin!!

I guess my counselor gave me a really bad recommendation.

This is probably because one of my friends stabbed me in the back so bad. Et tu brute.

My counselor is bound to think I'm a horrible person based off of what she has heard about me.

All of these fraudulent accusations.

I'm not so upset that I didn't get in. It's just my mind running rampant on why this might be that I can't stand.
