Draw, Scan, Complete

I'm sure everyone has different process of creating things. But pretty often it is similar to each other. 

Draw, Scan, Complete. 

Almost all my logos I've done was done with the same process. I'm not talking about figuring out potential customers of your client and not about brief. I am talking about exact process of creating logo. When I have enough information about future logotype and have couple ideas on my mind I start draw. Yes, draw on a piece of paper with pencil. It is a freeway that will take you anywhere you want. Draw any sketches, do not be afraid to make a mistakes. This is just a graphical brain-storming to find two-three good ideas and then finish them into final product. After drawing I usually pick two or three concepts and scan them into Adobe Illustrator. Than I start playing with adjustments, colors and other things. I think it is very important to make logo that would look nice in black and white before you start coloring. Why? Simply because it will make this logotype a multi-purpose thing (not only unique and cool) that could fit anywhere (on invoices, walls, magazines, email signatures and other surfaces and places). If we're talking about colors I try to not use more than two colors. Of course exceptions happens. I usually ask my client if they have corporate colors already setup (if yes, that's it you problem solved) If they don't have colors I use Adobe Kuler or Colorscheme.ru . These two websites are very useful. They similar and different at the same time. I'm not going to go and review both of them, I would just recommend to go and check both.

So I'm done with: model, shape, colors and product is ready. Before I send it to my client I usually scale this logo to very small size to see if there is no bugs after it scaled down. I'm starting testing it on different surfaces. It will give me plenty of information how adaptive this graphical product. How universal it is. Always show it to your client and it will help him to see the actual logo in use and how it will fit the real world. Save it in couple different formats and always keep original format. Never know when you will need it again.
