this is Amaco’s Supernova glaze!

a wonderful friend gifted me a jar of it and I am super excited to try it out because it’s transparent enough to show underglaze underneath!

without underglaze it just gives the piece that pearlescent shine, but hopefully it’s transparent enough that sgraffito details can show through. I’ll be doing some tests before really committing though lol

So I got a student who commissioned one of my little Stray sculptures, and she wanted the lesbian flag on it. We're hard up for glazes at the moment, but I scrounged up some underglazes I found while deep cleaning the classroom.

They're wildly expensive now a days, and the majority of sgraffito can be done with Sax glazes, so we shifted to that. I'm holding onto these for the kids who will really use em/upper level kids who I can trust to not dump a cup of it into a contaminated slip cup.

I wanted to make a span of the 6 main colors we've got, and see how mixing it with the white glaze would work.

I was having WAY too much fun

I brought em home, since I got a professional day to file the near 30 student reports I need to for the quarter. So I'm enjoying myself tonight hehe

I'm finally (FINALLY) getting around to posting these proper photos I took of the lichen mugs in their natural habitat (Georgian Bay)!

Most of these sold at a summer market, but I'm just starting a new batch of mugs & will definitely be making a few more lichen ones. I'm also working on some bigger mugs as well, for people like me who absolutely require a half-litre of tea/coffee at a time...these wee mugs ended up being baby-cups at 200-250ml because I forgot about clay shrinkage (since this was my first time in ages making pieces where that mattered!).

(all dipped glazes are what the community studio has in buckets; so while I'm sure these are common recipes, I can find out the recipe if the name isn't helpful and you want to know more!)

I was experimenting with Amaco celadons with this one. Exterior is three coats of tangerine with three coats celadon snow over it (did not have the effect I wanted but that's okay). Interior: I dabbed on storm, rainforest, aqua, snow, three coats each, in that order. This bowl is very nice and cutie for fruit and cereal, and I'm proud of the form!

This one is cinnabar dipped with "white" (lol) on the rim and just a touch of PVC clear on the rim.

And this little cutie is either seafoam green or light matte green (I really need to get better with taking notes in the studio) dipped, with PVC clear applied to the ridges with a transfer pipette.

loading the wee kiln with flowers i made for a client... they're firing rn and fingers crossed, i'm nervous about the wall thicknesses. and if they stand this i want to fire them stoneware......... so nervous..............

also my beloved said that one flower looked In Fact like a Cabbage so i googled flowrs that resemble cabbages and was not disappointed, green to purple colour scheme
