Here’s my entry for @welcome-to-junktown‘s adopt-a-thon, I’m going for Wilson!
I’ll be honest, the first time I saw him I didn’t think much of the guy, but when I went back and read all the profiles something clicked: Wilson has a lot in common with me, mainly the bits that I don’t usually add onto my characters. (after a few sketches I realized he was cute too lol)
This is going to make him a very interesting character for me to explore, because it will come with certain introspection that I’ve never done before, heck maybe this dude will get me to actually start writing again! (if I win him ofc rip)
I know all this is super last-minute, I only learned about this blog and this contest thingy yesterday and I’ve been working on this literally all day (6am to midnight I am not kidding)
I’ve always believed that seeing someone’s room can tell you a lot about them, so I wanted to show Wilson in his own space like this, and since he lives alone he spends a lot of time here. I initially wanted to write a short thing to go with it about how the rain reminded him of his family and stuff but timecrunch. I’m not sure I made the place look steampunky enough, I’m pretty new at drawing backgrounds still.
Wilson’s place is basically equivalent to a studio apartment, with a combined living/bed room and a separate space with a kitchen/closet/bathroom. He found it abandoned and empty and slowly built up furniture and such over the time he’s been there. He collects books and other parchment (like the blueprints on the table) and basically runs a sort of pseudo library (he gives the things he doesn’t want to keep to the real library ofc)
here’s the doodles I did first to learn the character (idk if they count as part of the entry, but I really like them ^^)
The only physical thing I changed was swapping out his gauges for regular earrings, as I’m not really comfortable with gauges.
Anyways, here’s other stuff I know about him so far other than what’s in his ID:
Wilson is an absolute mess of a giant, just very good at hiding it, the sort to clean his entire house 20 minutes before company comes over by shoving everything into the back room. He never goes anywhere without his umbrella and necklaces. He is fascinated by tiny things like clockwork and circuitry. He works as a scrapper, taking old machines apart to see which bits are still useful, the repetitive and somewhat thoughtless work is what allows him to daydream easily. He might also trade some artwork for extra food sometimes. His laid-back and sensible nature along with having grown up in a large mixed family makes it easy for him to get along with almost anyone, his anxiety only coming out in private. He’s also a decent cook but tends to snack on any old thing he finds instead. Under normal lighting his eyes look icy blue, but under indoor lightbulbs it shifts towards green, and under the rare full sunlight the color will look more purple!
Sorry about all the rambling, i’m just characterizing out loud rip
