“Well, as fun as it’s been to play hide-and-seek with you, I have work to do.”
The borrower woman’s voice somehow carries through the entire inn, projecting through the air by an unseen speaker system. She is no where to be seen.
Suddenly, the lights cut out, rendering the room an aggressive, muting darkness. A jury-rigged spotlight bursts to life with a shower of sparks, directing all eyes toward the top of the staircase. There, on the banister rail, stands the borrower the scavengers had been pursuing for more than an hour. Behind her, a paper screen hiding the access to the ballroom, obviously meant to break away, begins to light up with multitudes of colored lights. Eyes.
“I don’t play nice with vulturous humans like you.”
Suddenly, the paper wall explodes into an expanding swarm of robotic bodies. The sounds of clicking gears and creaking metal drowns out the blood-curdling screams of the scavengers as they stay just out of reach of the slow moving hoard.
“Hope you have fun with my compatriots though!” The borrower smiles and waves from the banister.
