Under an agreement with New Jersey state child welfare officials, same-sex couples were granted the right to jointly adopt children. The decision marked a major step forward for LGBTQ+ family recognition and helped set legal precedents for adoption equality nationwide.
My country’s (Germany’s) parliament just passed a law on marriage equality! I’m over the freaking moon!

As of this morning, changes to Victoria’s adoption laws allow couples to apply to adopt a child, regardless of their gender or sexual identity.
“It’s a momentous step for us emotionally,” says Anna Viola, who’s in a same-sex couple with a daughter in a stepparent family.
“Being able to adopt means that my partner and child will be able to have their relationship bound by law, and have all the protections and rights that we couldn’t take for granted before.”
The adoption amendment bill passed last year puts same sex and gender diverse couples on the same page as straight couples when it comes to adoption, legally enforcing what we already knew – the reality that gender and sexuality do not affect a persons ability to be a loving caring parent.
As of today, hundreds of children and families will be afforded the rights and legal protection that they deserve.
Another reason(s) I'm upset with Michigan.
First of all that whole stunt the governor pulled where all those couples got married and then he claimed the licenses were illegitimate.... I'm not going to go into that because it makes me so angry. I will say that when I heard Michigan had marriage equality, I teared up... too bad it was a lie.
Also if you live in Michigan and you're gay it is completely legal to be fired from your job just because of your sexuality.
There is a law prohibiting our marriage. There is no equality when we go to adopt, and when we go to school. Schools are allowed to shut down LGBTQ groups... which did happen at my high school.
Sorry, I just saw that six other states have gained equality and I am so so so so so happy for them!!!!!! But Michigan, damn. Wtf.
By the way I've read up on all this and I believe it to be true, if you have proof against any of this please tell me, it will make my fucking day.
