Adoption shower
I work at a foster care/adoption nonprofit. Many of my coworkers are foster/adoptive parents. All of my department members are. Every time someone has a bio baby, the whole company throws a baby shower (I think there have been 7? baby showers in the time I’ve worked here). When people adopt, there’s total radio silence.
We’ve talked in our team about throwing adoption showers bc it’s ridiculous that we don’t. My coworker had a sudden adoption yesterday (long story) and I’m done waiting for my boss to get this shit together. I’m going to organize the shower myself (with coworker’s permission) and invite the whole org.
Question: Has anyone thrown/been thrown an adoption shower/party? All the ideas I’ve found online seem to be for infant adoption or weirdly offensive. I like the theme of “love makes a family” and that sort of thing, but the whole “we chose you/waited for you” is a bit offputting.
Please share tips! I’m open to all ideas. :)
