"When an editor and a litigator have an argument, the one who wins is the wife."
Singaporean lawyer, author, legend, and just plain great man, Adrian Tan, at an NTU convocation ceremony, opening with his marriage. I only came to know of him recently, postmortem 😥. Soft-spoken but insightful, accomplished, sharp-witted and full of jokes. What a legend. Below are more of his quotes from his convocation speech.
“When you already won her heart, you don’t need to win any more arguments.”
“Some of you will enjoy the experience, you will do it over and over and over again.”
“Your degree is a poor armor against fate.”
“You will become good at at it for two reasons: because you love it and you do it often.”
“Wake up knowing what you want to do and why you want to do it. If you don’t, you are working.”
“Any child can tell the truth. It takes great maturity to appreciate the value of silence.”
“In order to tell the truth, you must first know it. That requires great frankness to yourself.”
“Rejection requires only one reason. Love requires complete acceptance.”
