Shadow’s not surprised Silver’s caught him in the act, nor was he particularly trying to hide it, lying being something that only weak people did to cover their tracks, but for once he understands how Silver feels -- traveling back in time and trying to act NORMAL is...difficult to say the least. Especially when maintaining said normalcy involves trying to pretend the other person isn’t going to wind up dead.
Self-fulfilling prophecies and all. Shadow doesn’t want that future to happen again, Silver like a sacrificial lamb walking to his death for the good of all / Shadow was the same way once, but life is worth living, and life cannot be lived if you are so eager to die for the first cause that comes along. THAT’S NO LIFE AT ALL.
Lying to Silver about it made it all feel like one bad dream. One very long, very horrible dream. Time to wake up. “Okay, fine.” Shadow draws in a breath that feels both too long and too short.
“You can’t go. This isn’t the first time I’ve done this. Only last time you came with me, and you decided to play hero. Something happened--I’m not sure what--and next thing I know I’m in the past and you’re alive and you don’t remember anything.” He can’t help but smile a little bit at the situation and their reversed roles. “Ironic, huh?” The smile fades as soon as it rises.
