Tucker I learned young that women don't stay. Luckily, no-strings hookups work perfectly for me, and as a firefighter, I have no problem finding women. But losing a victim to the river in a flash flood, left me not only shaken, but changed. Only that lie by omission comes back to bite me in the ass because one sizzling night later, I want something I've never wanted before—more. And after almost losing everything to a domineering ex, I'm all about independence. Hooking up with the hot bartender seems like the perfect beginning to a ten-day visit, but one night with Tucker Medina has me weak-kneed and wickedly satisfied. Until I learn he not only lied about who he was, he made a bet on getting me into bed. MY THOUGHTS:

Playing with Fire absolutely played on all of my emotions! I've been waiting for the playboy, Tucker, to fall since the very first book and I am so thrilled that he found such an amazing partner. From their very first interaction, the chemistry between Lacey and Tucker is white hot! The intimate connection was immediately recognizable, and I just knew that there was no way these two would be able to stay apart. They both had a lot of baggage to work through, and concessions to make, but ultimately they were meant to be. The supporting cast of characters-the brotherhood of the fire department and their spouses-is one of the reasons I love this series so much. I really love the way they navigate the difficult moments in life—from dysfunctional families, to mental health or drug issues, to grief and loss. Every instance, while gut wrenching, is so emotionally authentic. A true testament to Skye Jordan's writing talents! Fans of these books will be thrilled to see Natalie, Cole, Isabel, and Logan are frequently on page and that they're still living and loving well. This whole firehouse family makes my heart happy and I'm desperately hoping we'll see more of these characters.

Review: Million-Dollar Mix-Up by Jessica Lemmon

3.5 ⭐ There are only a handful of authors I will read in the category romance genre, but Jessica Lemmon is near the top of the list—for good reason! What I loved about Million-Dollar Mix-Up: •A snowed in romance and oops, there's just one bed! Admittedly, I had to suspend my disbelief for a that this big "cabin" had guest rooms with no furniture, but it worked. Snow, cozy fireplace snuggles with lots of blankets, and spicy hot tub scenes during a snowstorm. Yes, please. I'd like more! •Kendall is a career driven woman that doesn't apologize for chasing her dreams. Loved her determination! •The commercial-holy smokes! Why were those *almost kisses* the hottest scene in the book! •Max gives good grovel. I am totally on board with his reasons for being upset, but I also really enjoyed that in the end he was like, *Whatever it takes to get her back*. Major swoon! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Murder Most Actual is one of my favorite reads of 2021. As a fan of the movie Knives Out, I found Murder Most Actual to be highly entertaining! There is a beautiful highland hotel, picture perfect scenery, and a cast of quirky characters trying to solve the mysterious murders that occur over the Good Friday holiday weekend. Liza, the true-crime podcaster, and her on-the-rocks marriage to Hanna, are the anchor of the story. While this couple works to figure out if they can save their marriage, they also work to figure out which of the hotel guests is behind the murders that are occurring. Feeling more than a little afraid, Hanna eventually resolves to help her wife try to solve the crimes. What ensues is a mad-cap romp of a story. There is snarky humor, some pointed observations about classism, and a mystery that had me turning pages at warp speed. There is also a deep understanding and recognition between the couple of what it means to love someone, and how being with someone for a long time doesn't guarantee happiness. Relationships are work, and both Liza and Hanna come to acknowledge that neither of them has been doing that work. I loved how their story was told, and that they were able to sort things out despite everything that was going on around them. Growing up, I inhaled Nancy Drew, adored Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote, and loved playing Clue. This story brought all of those wonderful feelings back! I literally shouted A-ha when the villain was exposed and found myself nodding in agreement as Liza did her best to recount the events of the weekend to the detective. Alexis Hall wrote a story that took me out of my own head for an entire day-I hadn't realized how much I needed a fun mystery like this one-and now I want to read every other book in AH's backlist. I'm thrilled to have discovered that I love this particular style of storytelling and am looking forward to reading more along these lines.

This month I challenged myself to read some new-to-me authors, beginning with Everly Ashton's Rent-A Husband. I love a fake relationship story, and this one delivered on the premise-with the added bonus of a great cast of characters. Lucas, the oldest of the brothers, cannot walk away when someone needs help. But that single-minded focus doesn't leave much time for anything beyond the business he runs with his brothers. Camila is in need of a little home repair and a big boost of confidence in the relationship department. Who better to help her than the handsome new handy man? *wink wink* I loved the pacing of this couple's relationship and so appreciated that Lucas remained professional until the contracting job was done. From pre-wedding events, to day trips, to time spent with the Abbott family, their relationship grew in small and meaningful ways. The slow-burn pace was perfection, and then there were no more reasons why "we can't" and that was fantastic, too! I swooned when Lucas asked Camila to be his "real" girlfriend! *heart eyes* Rent-A Husband is a solid start to what's sure to be a very entertaining series, and I'm looking forward to following along as the other Abbot brothers fall in love!
