After (unintentionally) avoiding any and all TTRPGs for the few decades of life, I’m now obsessed. My new hobby is writing one-shot TTRPG adventure set-ups that are amusing to me personally. After reassurance from some lovely folks on tumblr (thank you, @alessandriana, @charcoal-soul, @epicmuse42, @genrenommer​), I have decided to share them on ao3!! 

Here’s the first one! I’ve played it 3 times with 3 sets of players, and it was fun and silly all three times.

It’s a dungeon crawl where you can shift back and forth between a regular dungeon crawl type of place and a parallel plane of hamster cages connected by colorful plastic tubes. You can hack the portal device to change size! (as long as you want to be hamster-sized.) Or change shape! (as long as you want to be hamster-shaped.)

I even drew maps!

Swiss Family Robinson. You cannot tell me that this isn’t adventurecore. I haven’t seen it in years but this movie shaped me as a child and definitely helped in planting my longing to go live in the wild with a bunch of animals

Lord of the Rings, of course! This one is more rangercore than adventurecore, but I have to include it. I mean, there’s a reason Aragorn is my icon! (This applies to the books and the movies)

The Hobbit. A little more on the adventurecore side than LOTR is, and personally my favorite of the two (though I do adore LOTR.) All about going on an adventure and leaving behind your comfortable life to experience the world and it’s wilderness. (also applies to both books and movies)

The Secret Garden. This one’s a little bit of a cross between adventurecore, cottagecore, and mysterycore. I mean, a young girl finds a mystery in her new home, goes adventuring through her new backyard and its forest, and finds a secret garden. Pretty adventure/cottage/mysterycore, if I do say so myself

The Wander Society by Kerri Smith. This one isn’t fiction, but I wouldn’t exactly call it nonfiction either. It’s a fantastical nonfiction guide to adventure. Would HIGHLY recommend for fellow adventurers

Indiana Jones! A more modern adventurecore, but still adventurecore I think.

The Princess Bride!!!!! This is one of my favorites, would definitely recommend. Very adventurecore, too, i feel. There’s pirates and princesses and wilderness and i honestly just love it. (Applies to both the book and the movie!)

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island!!! This movie definitely helped shape me as a kid. 100% made me want to go sail off to a mysterious island no one knows about with Dwayne Johnson. Would definitely recommend, highly underrated.

Narnia, at least a little bit

Back to the Future. This one’s a modern/futuristic adventurecore, but I think it still counts

Atlanis: The Lost Empire!!!!! I love this movie so much! It’s a more technological adventure, but it’s not modern. This definitely falls under the adventurecore category, though

Now this is an illustration I am definitely happy with but will probably hate later. It’s a plant with an almost jelly like middle and it’s rind is a natural gelatine substitute. I called it Meisai and it’s one of the many plants featured in my kickstarter fantasy journal project you can check out below.
