my favorite take on dekujirou (my take) is theyre doing that thing where they're both completely convinced the other is the opposite gender so jirou thinks midoriya's a girl (femme cis guy) and he thinks she's a boy (masc cis girl) and neither of them think to correct each other or even clarify. by the time they figure it out its been a YEAR but it takes even LONGER because they're STILL confused ("I've never called her my girlfriend because I don't want to scare her away!") ("I can't call him my boyfriend yet because what if I've been completely misreading him?!") ("Has she been calling me her boyfriend because she's in the closet??? Was her middle school THAT bad???") ("DOES HE KNOW SOMETHING I DON'T???????????").
