Some Things I’m Thankful For, 2019 Edition

There are fewer things on here than last year, both because it’s not flowing as easily now as it did then, and because I picked a lot of the low-hanging fruit last year and don’t want to repeat things (and also because it’s almost midnight and I’m tired). But I want to mention:

New job that’s intellectually challenging in a supportive environment, with the potential for EA-relevant career capital in the future.

Friends who go out of their way to give me a place to go when I’m alone in a new city.

My talk to someone today:

Me: listen, programming languages die very slowly, programmers tend to die before them in fact.

Me: look, I’ve been alive for 34 years, COBOL has been dying since before I was born and will continue the slow-going process after I cross the rainbow bridge, is it worth learning? Maybe, but it’s boring... is it worth learning to get paid exorbitant amounts? Hell yeah.

i should probably look at various graphs of covid case info to figure out how to show the kaiju data. similar concept in some ways b/c they would have wanted to show increasing/decreasing numbers of cases over time
