Laure's Top Ten Tumblr Survivor Moments

So I thought this would be a fun thing to do.

I've been here for more than a year, and it's so strange to think about since there use to be a period where I was so nervous talking to people in this community, because I was new, but now I've been around before more than half of these seasons started thus I've decided to count down my top ten favorite moments in this community.

10. Dustin getting rocked out in Newfoundland

Okay this one might sound mean, but when it comes to hosting since we're limited to drawing attention and excitement to our seasons with the limitations of text on a Tumblr blog I try to high light stories concerning what I think are big characters. Dustin was nothing less than a big character, and though it was tragic to see him go out like that it was a good end to his story. Some would say it is really sad that he went out not having his fate in his own hands, but that is not true. Though the ruby idol forces the votes at tribal council to be thrown away it has a lot of strategic social value. Dustin was well aware Foxx had it, but he decided to be his usual Dustin self anyway and be really aggressive and threatening towards Foxx. Not the approach to take when someone has a live grenade in their hand in a situation with nothing to lose, which was the point of this twist that I don't think people get. He also had his fate in his hands when I told him to pick a number between 7-12 to determine how many times I randomized the the list of players (my plan was to have everyone who joined the call that was eligible to draw rocks to pick a number as well and add them all up just to let them have a bit of role in their fate), and he picked his favorite number, which was 8. It was his undoing, which lead to one of my favorite confessionals ever. There was no way in hell Dustin was going to win Newfoundland, but he had an interesting ride. His alliance was getting picked off in the beginning of the game, but somehow he managed to survive to get to Molly and be in a power position just to lose it all again. He got a good character arc that I enjoyed watching. As far as the ruby idol goes it won't be back in a season I host. I have my reasons on why I think it adds to the game, but if the people who follow the season dislike it I'm not going to force them to like it. I'm sure the real show has given you many twists you've disliked, but they had to try. Hell maybe if Survivor started getting people to host these games it would be a great trial and error for them before ruining an actual season with it. Anyway, when it comes to twists there is always the argument that Jessie I believe wisely brought up that there isn't a point to it unless it actually adds to the game, but sometimes it is fine to watch how people handle certain situations as it says a lot about their gameplay. The ruby idol being the end of Dustin's game showed how reckless of a player he was and gave him a fitting end to a great story.

9. Sam proclaiming I have no right to make fun of Trace's jury speech, because I, not being a minority, am responsible for killing her people

Unlike Sam, I am not a fan of the live tribal council format. No cast is alike, and though that format worked perfectly for Maluku since they were always active and invested the rest of us peasants always has the occasional inactive on the jury or just a bitter angry cast no host in their right mind would want to expose their players to on a large skype call where everyone is talking over each other. (Could you imagine if we did this on Newfoundland? I mean Dustin ilu but seeing as how the jury created a whole new jury chat room that didn't include you I have a feeling it would have been a mess) Anyway, I kind of liked what they did in Adversaries. We all got to address all the official questions the jury members asked us in text form, and then for those who were online at the time we did rebuttals over the call. It was a good time I really liked discussing the game with Dane and Jessica, because when we had real conversations instead of fake ass kissing bullshit speeches we had an open dialogue where we could all truly understand the positions we were in during that game. All of that great conversation though was overshadowed when Sam, who was getting beat up a little by the jury, was getting stressed and breaking down, which led to what I consider a hilarious moment when she accused me of being responsible for the holocaust. This is just one of those things that don't happen every day, and even though sometimes I do think Sam should have taken Austin up on his offer to be medically evacuated Brandon Hantz style, it was just hilarious to me she was pushed to that point. Sorry MJ, I'm glad I didn't volunteer to get voted out to help you. If it wasn't for this we would have never gotten Trace's speech about how I insulted his race, social class, and culture (Trace is a rich white kid for those who don't know) and Sam's holocaust break down.

8. Wes mentioning on call that someone wasn't in the call and Sam saying 'you're not in the call' and Wes saying 'that's right' and then leaving the call and chatroom

It's one of those things you just had to be there for, but thanks to Wes for infecting us all with the constant need to insult people by accusing them of being an object they just brought up.

7. Jessy's Ireland Confessionals

When I look back at Ireland I normally feel sad, because being an 18th placer I didn't make much of an impact in that game other than being the first one to be voted out of a game twice in one night in the ultimate coordinated blindside, but then I read Jessy's confessionals. I still don't know if Jessy is actually a young female or even a human at all, because she refuses to buy a microphone for her computer, but her overdramatic Ireland confessionals concerning me bring a smile to my face. Jules, Pris, and I blindsided her friend Andy (some irrelevant), and somehow I got all the blame for it. She went on this huge rant about I had reduced her game to ashes after throwing a hissy fit in the chat. Honestly if it weren't for these confessionals I'd think Jessy was incapable of emotions. Then there was the amazing Winterbells confessional where she literally updated it every time she scored higher than me or vice versa. We were noobies back then. We didn't know about waiting til the last minute to post let us live.

6. Jessica vs the World in Sapphire Isles

Okay everyone knows Jessica is hilarious, but there was once a time where her most hilarious moments to me were completely unintentional responses to dire situations. The game got real for her after Katie quit for her (she quit during the revote by the way. The second urn never got opened I wasn't going to have Jessica get voted out and then force Katie to stay against her will or have her quit and go into the merge early. This was a decision that had to be made split second and it's the decision I will always stand by, also I was new with no guidance, no co-host LET ME LIVE SAM) and it lead to the most awkward Jessica confessionals and reactions ever. She would go on long rants in the tribe chat about how they needed to work together, and how she wanted to mend the issue that lead to her getting voted out. She was very sincere and making the right move for someone in that position, and her tribe mates responded to her by completely ignoring her making the chatroom as awkward as hell which unleashed Jessica's wrath that got her to the end of that game. My favorite part was when she proclaimed to her tribe mates she had nothing to hide and that they could message me to ask me if she had an idol, and then turned around and reminded me I had no authority to tell anyone she had an idol. There was a lot of great Jessica moments in this season, (read her confessionals she was wrong about everything all the time and somehow still got to the end) but I'm going to give Jack a shout out. When people talk about dynamic duos they think about obvious alliances and pre-game friendships, but I would put Jessica and Jack into this category. They didn't come into the game hitting it off with plans to work with each other. It just naturally happened when both were in danger, and from there they created a great partnership. Jack took advantage of Jessica's social game to get the numbers to get rid of threats, while Jessica took advantage of Jack's idols and benefited from his strategic moves. Jessica is mad at me because there were a few times I said Jack deserved to win Sapphire Isles, but too be honest I'm not even 100% sure with any opinion regarding, because the moves they pulled off they did together and wouldn't have been possible without each other. Maybe Jessica should just start ditching Jakey for Jack more often. Thank god that duo didn't reform in Adversaries.

5. The Newfoundland Finale

Honestly this is the last time Newfoundland will be on this list, because to be perfectly honest I just didn't have the passion for this one as I did for Sapphire, and between that and hosting issues and problematic cast members it just didn't translate well into a good product, but that didn't take away from the finale. Sapphire was a great season, but we all knew Jack wasn't going to win, Newfoundland was a completely different story. Due to my computer being slow I took the finale to the viewing lounge for a live reading of the votes, and the order the votes came out was the order I received them. I had gone into the situation thinking Katie was going to win, because I thought there was a voting block that would only vote her and it outnumbered the voting block for Molly, but the very first vote was the complete opposite of what I thought it would be, and then there was another vote that went against my expectations, and before I knew it a vote for Sam came in, which lead to the possibility of a tie. Zak voted 1 minute before the deadline, and his vote meant the difference between a tie or Molly winning and he gave her the win. It was a nice pallet cleanser to have such a photo finish ending.

4. God bringing MJ down on this earh to be the greatest survivor player ever

'Laure why didn't anyone in the Miyako alliance make a move? Why didn't you all start targetting each other earlier? Why did you all play it safe?'

Honestly one of the reasons is because MJ is hilarious. There was a lot of great moments with him in Adversaries he could almost get his own top ten list. It started with him throwing the first reward challenge just to get crushed by seeing who was on his new tribe (he did me and Sam a favor and we laughed in his face), him fighting with Dane where he proclaimed God brought him down to be the greatest, clapping when they voted him during Jessica's blindside after his idol play, and after the game where he yelled at Sam for being able to offer take him to the Outback Steakhouse but not the final 2. Seriously why would you vote Sam or MJ off when you can spend hours on call with them constantly saying 'hey Sam what's your score' 'hey MJ what's yours' 'NUNYA BUSINESS!' over and over again?

Also never forget when we all reunited during the tribe mix up and MJ went on his rant about Queen Sam and Queen Jessica and how we were all dogs on their leashes before going into his boot list.

3. Maluku BB

Why is this here? Because it's hilarious. I am sad that I started working and just couldn't keep up with it and Newfoundland at the same time, because though it was a silly side game it was the breeding ground for great moments. Wes saving JaeMin constantly just to troll people, Jessie vs Trace on the block just to have Trace evicted to come back in to be against Jessie the next week after going on his rants about how he'd align with outgoing HOHs, and Matt Summers recruiting everyone who's name started with M for his team and thinking that'd work out for him. Of course the greatest is still MJ losing HOH due to being a have not, getting evicted right before the Winterbells competition, coming back with a Pandora's Box that allows him to eliminate anyone of his choice, and he picks Mattica, and then there is Phil's confessionals bitching about it. The small time we had together was amazing.

2. Jack's Skype Survivor Philippines

I know there have been a million seasons since and a lot of epic things have happened, but hone stly nothing can beat the awesomeness of this season. I proclaimed to the world that we needed to vote Sam out because she was a threat AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED BECAUSE WE HAD THE MAJORITY OF THE VOTES just to have her pull out an idol and axe me to be put on jury for ryan's dirty flip flop speech. I was also very drunk.

1. Maria being rocked out and Foxx being Sapphire Idol'd out

There was just something about this season that was crazy. Not counting the final 3 tribal council there was never an unanimous vote cast in this game and it had a perfect opening and closing to the craziness. Let us start with emma, the chick that sent in the Bee movie script, who actually had a huge impact on everything. She was aligned with the newbies of the Galladon tribe being . Michelle, Maria (you heard of her? She kind of becomes an important part of Tumblr Survivor lore, but this is where the story begins), and herself against Jessica, Katie, and Nicole. She was doing undercover with the returnees and she was fully aware they would be voting Michelle that tribal council, but just for the hell of it she played her idol that tribal council (an idol Jack gave her by the way making him responsible for the craziness emma pursued that tribal) with full intention of going to rocks and making herself safe during the process. If she played it on Michelle Katie would have been voted out, but they took the path where things looked well for them because Jessica, Maria, and Nicole were eligible to go. That's a 2/3 chance a returnee goes and by a miracle Nicole and Jessica survive making Maria the very first Tumblr Survivor player to be rocked out. It was an epic moment to happen during the second tribal council of the season and a great origin story for Maria all because emma went the wrong way about things.

A lot of shit went down after that, but our story comes to a close with the Sapphire idol play. True there was probably too many idols in the game. Wan got his idol, because when Jack found the Sapphire idol I wanted him to incur some risk for taking it (which was a player randomly getting a regular idol), but it still lead to an unforgettable moment. It was a big deal, because not only did I step on a few toes for Sapphire Isles to be season 8 of Tumblr Survivor, but I was taking a big risk creating an idol with new powers. I had explained this to many people to get their feedback and people liked it knowing the way the Sapphire Idol works is it's basically a vote splitter killer and is bad news for the person who gets a random vote thrown at them once in a while. I had gone over many times the terms for this idol and how it would play out, and though the Sapphire play in Newfoundland made much more strategic sense, I wasn't prepared for the amazing introduction the Sapphire idol got to the game. It was responsible for sending Foxx out of the game with 0 votes cast against him at that tribal (and all the previous tribals). Kind of like Dustin he got an epic end to this story that was the perfect climax before Jessica and Jack took the game over. Sapphire Isles will always be my favorite experience.
