So aegis shield is pretty blatantly a dragon's skull huh? Note the two eye socket shapes flanking the sides and the blank triangle resembling the tarot forehead plates seen on the dragon designs in the game.
Presumably the shield was made from the shield dragon's skull. Not sure exactly how that worked or if maybe the weapon manufacturer just replicated the aegis shield after a dragon's skull using other dragon parts instead, but hey pretty cool!!
these tendril-like parts also remind me of the growths covering rhea in silver snow... seteth says rhea goes berserk because of her crest's power. I wonder if the shield dragon could have entered a similar state. Otherwise maybe the tendrils just appear when a dragon is near death...who knows
Also i was rereading the silver snow final chapter to refresh and found it weird how she keeps calling byleth sweet child and discovered its just another localization thing. Thanks for always keeping it weird IntSys 👍
The design settings overtly compare the interior of the shield's design to the Fraldarius crest (or should i say the shield dragon sign---) which is a cool detail but I'm not sure if this is meant to be the actual roof of the shield dragon's mouth? Erm... but I'm guessing not. But given that the front of the shield lacks the crest of fraldarius i like that it appears on the back instead! 👍 I like the idea of its creator carefully modelling the back to resemble the dragon sign on the skull of the dragon corpse they were defiling....... they must have taken pride in their work. Not quite sure if this back portion is meant to resemble a specific body part though. Since crest stones are dragon hearts (iirc????????) i do like the idea that maybe this back part is like a sort of sternum or rib cage, protecting the crest stone inside...................................
Oh and in the cipher art? the crest of fraldarius flashing JUST WHERE it should be on a dragons skull? mmmmmhm oh yea its all comin together 👍 also the way it mimics a dragon head is kind of giving:
Sad to think of any of the nabateans getting jumpscared because they momentarily forgot about the Giant Dragon Skull relic
--Addendum:
The English name of the Shield Dragon is The Steadfast, and in Japanese 硬きもの, meaning something hard, stiff, tough to break. I like the translation The Steadfast for it a lot! It's also a synonym for stubbornness which is amusing to me. Again I like the idea of the shield dragon not going down without a fight to Nemesis or whoever wound up killing it... not much else to say really I just didn't want to make another post. 👍
