hey again! Sorry for always asking you questions!! First off how are you? Also, do you have any specific photos of your pets that you would like to be drawn? I wanna draw Groot bc he`s baby but I`ll draw them all if you want! It could be individually or I could put them all in a group if you want :)

Second, and you can ignore this as it`s pretty odd and stupid, but how much is spelling worth in vet school? As in, during testing, if you misspell a word but you can clearly still see what it is, how many points would be docked off? I know that it really depends on the school and class itself, but is there a general rule to it? I recently got a F on an anatomy practical because even though I correctly identified what was being shown, and you could tell what I was identifying it as, I would forget a letter or something along those lines, so I got no points. I`m just so scared for vet school as spelling is not my strong suit due to learning disabilities, and if this will be a common theme in vet school I know that I basically would stand no chance :/ So sorry this is a stupid question and like I said feel free to ignore it! Groot is the Great Dane of a friend of mine, vet-and-wild, so that’s probably what you were thinking of! I wouldn’t complain about receiving drawings of any of them! :)

Spelling in vet school matters in some ways - ileum vs ilium, and things like that. However spelling overall really depends on your professors. Some will be buttholes and insist on perfect spelling. Others will give you credit as long as they know what you meant. Veterinary medicine, especially vets, are professionals, and impeccable spelling and grammar is expected when communicating with clients and other vets (but in those cases you can use spell check before sending things off!)

hey! first off I love your blog omg, dani stans for the win she needs more love!! second; I was wondering if you had sources I could look at when drawing Dani? I`ve been scouring the internet for sources on drawing native features and trying my best to incorporate them, however, when I was trying to find Cherokee specific traits, it found it a little mixed? I tried looking for actresses but I was only able to find a few :( is there any where you know of where I can find more references?

But if you’re having trouble looking for lots of different real life references, I can understand how that may be difficult. My advice would be to expand your searches to other close tribes as well. Arapaho, Crow, Lakota, Kiowa... Tribes from the same general origins very often have similar physical features, not to mention intermarriage between Nations has always been a thing.

Dani is in general pretty consistently drawn with -

Brown skin

Long, thick, straight black hair

High, strong cheekbones

Strong/defined nose

Slightly thicker lips

Sometimes thicker eyebrows

These features all definitely check out, but my new biggest advice is just... don’t go so exaggerated like this:

Cause that’s a little too close to caricature territory for comfort. (And also whitewashed at the same time.) She and Jimmy should make a club called “so you never bothered to learn how to draw Native characters for your job drawing Native characters?”

hey! can I ask what problematic things leah williams has done in the past? I only really know about her work via that magik one shot and this new book and wanna know the history of what she`s done to look out for things, thanks! essentially, her whole run of x-tremists in age of x-man was incredibly racist. she had one of the characters (nezumi, an asian woman) have the power to turn into a rat and have rat related powers. in world war ii, asian people (esp japanese people) were called rats because they were said to “carry disease”. so you see the problem of having the crazy asian woman be called a rat and have rat powers.

leah williams is a white woman. yes, she’s not straight, but like many white people in the lgbt community they think that just because a character of color is lgbt, the racial connotations and background disappear. she does NOT know how to write asian characters. but as they are part of the community, and making haha funny gay jokes, it gets swept under the rug.

another thing in x-tremists that really bothered me was the way she talked about jubilee not helping nezumi out. nezumi said something in the lines of “help your fellow asian woman dont be a traitor” i do not like that leah williams wrote that. its not her place. it simply isnt.

daken’s character is a racial stereotype since his creation (ie: the fact that his name is a literal slur to mixed japanese ppl) that doesnt mean i dont love him. but white writers that are said to be “progressive” should know not to fall into the racial stereotying

Fun fact! Aquagenic urtcaria is what being allergic to water is called! It only effects when water comes in contact with skin thou some report thrust swelling at times. It's not a true allergy bc it doesn't release histamines. It may be caused be a mutation on chromosome 2q21 or it may be a reaction between a substance in the water and the skin, not the water itself but nobody really knows. I'm just a studied this in my immunology class lmao

I have heard of this ye! Elphaba’s allergy does still burn their skin quite severely in the punk au, but they can counteract this in two steps: by taking a pill (water will cause a rash/light swelling) and then by applying a medicinal lather to whatever skin they want to be truly immune (which is how they shower.) 

me and a few friends came up with a very bullshit science justification, but it would not hold up to scrutiny at all so its not really worth mentioning lmao. Elphaba’s allergy simply wouldn’t make sense. … artistic license? artistic license.

Hey! I was wondering if you knew were I could find studies on using beer to treat anhidrosis in horses? I saw a girl at my friends barn feeding some sort of dark draft beer to her horse with it. I asked the vets I work with and most of them never really worked equine so they didnt really know. I looked it up and I saw UF said there wasnt any real effect that it had. I was wondering if you knew why vets said to do it initially? ahh sorry for the weird question. Hope everything is going swell! :)

There are no studies. Probably the same line of thinking that leads people to use motor oil to treat mange, bleach to treat parvo, and tobacco to deworm.
