[Even though there's a 7 year age gap between Miranda and Orilin, the two tend to get along fantastically, especially while drinking (as approved by aemxpuella]
They frequently have wine nights where they lounge around the house drinking and sobbing over boys
Miranda being a buggy drunk, not really affectionate; she just latches onto Ori and doesn't let go. Drunk Ori just passes out and can't do anything against the glomp.
Mira ends up focusing on one thing while she is drunk and never shuts up. Ori is just constantly telling Mira to shut up and she's having NONE of it.
Rules: Don’t take too long to think about it. Ten animes you’ve seen that will always stick with you. List the first ten you can recall in no more than 10 minutes. Tag 10 friends, including me, because I’m actually interested in seeing what anime you guys choose.
1. Anohana: The Flower we saw that day
[I love how well they balance the dramatic irony and comedic relief to make this slice-of-life series feel very realistic. It's heartbreaking and beautiful and I love it. To quote my best friend, "Saddest game of hide and seek ever. Of all time."]
2. Denki-Gai[Another slice of life but revolving around manga-store employees. Sexual shenanigans abound with an odd balance of serious drama and comedy await that somehow really work well for the series. It's not anywhere as sad as Anohana and 3x as funny if not 30x more. Every time I think this series is ridiculous it hits with a dramatic moment, and then every time I think I can take this series seriously it gets goofy again. I dunno about "fantastic", but it's pretty fantastic. If I can bust my gut laughing at it, it's good.]
3. Nisekoi: False Love
[Don't get me started on this series. I. Love. This. Series. And that's not a False Love HEY-OOOOOOOO --- Anyway, Nisekoi is another slice of life (are you noticing a trend?), FULL OF FLUFF, but also has its deep, hard-hitting and sometimes sad moments. The protagonist is a Yakuza heir just trying to lead a normal life and is looking to fill a childhood promise. Maybe it's that cute girl he has a crush on right now? Life gets flipped upside down when the daughter of an American mob boss moves in and the two heirs must fake a relationship so their mobster families don't destroy the town in an all out gang war. Throw in some other love interests and shit-disturbing best friends and relatives AND YOU'VE GOT A HELLA GOOD TIME. There are few times when I don't bust a gut laughing or having my heartstrings yanked on by this series, it's absolutely lovely and hilarious. If you're having a bad day, give the series a watch or read, and I definitely don't recommend reading it online during class because you will probably laugh and everyone will look at you weird.]
4. Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood
[I refer mostly to the manga here as it was one of the few series that really impacted me when I was in my initial manga/anime phase and I stuck with it through the end. I still like the original series as a standalone but Brotherhood does a glorious job of bringing justice to the manga. It's got a lot of strong messages with fantastic characters and I look up to Arakawa-sensei immensely.]
5. Naruto
[Despite it all and not keeping up with the series, like, at all, it's still got a place in my heart as one of my initial manga/anime influences. I don't know why I didn't really keep up, I just didn't. Reading the last chapter when it came out though, it still feels good. That me from those younger days would've appreciated it immensely and the me now kinda does too despite not paying any attention to anything in-between.]
6. Case Closed
[Also part of my initial anime phase. I remember staying up well past my bed time in elementary school just to watch it on YTV's anime section late at night. It was dark and it was smart and I really liked Conan/Jimmy as the main character. Unfortunately, I still haven't kept up with this series either.]
7. Pokemon/Pokemon Adventures
[My first introduction to the anime was when Ash caught Caterpie. I even remember where I was and what channel it was on: I was at my cousin's house and we were watching Kids WB. When Ash teary eyed said goodbye to Butterfree I think I probably shed a few tears too. I had been with Ash as long as that Butterfree had been. Looking back now, the series is silly but fun and still continues to be today. If it's on, I'll watch it, usually with my youngest brother. Pokemon is one of those things that really keeps us tied together and these days he knows more than me. It's hard to keep up with all the trends (but I still know how to train and battle better than he does and that's all that matters). My first introduction to Pokemon Adventures was in their initial magazine-sized mirrored volumes where the images and speech bubbles were flipped. I loved following Red's adventures but at the time the local library only had so many issues and was severely lacking in the story. At the time, I didn't know about reading it online but as soon as I did I ate it all up. My brother and I strive to collect the new volumes as they come out, as well as some of the old ones. I really love how they tie in the lores and maintain a strong continuity between all of the series while still being able to keep every saga separate and distinct.]
8. Aldnoah Zero
[Aldnoah Zero is a mech anime involving the technologically superior Martians (humans who have colonized Mars) vs the Terrans who control all of the resources. Lots of political stuff, conspiracy, and incredibly smart and well written characters. the fights are also really good. fast paced story with jam packed episodes.]
9. Sword Art Online
[Kirito is a Gary Stu, I know this. Raku from Nisekoi kind of is too, but he's also got a bunch of flaws and really shitty luck. But I still like SAO. The characters are smart, the women are both beautiful AND strong (and this series does in fact pass the Bechdel test multiple times) and I love the whole fantasy-game life thing. Granted, I couldn't get into Log Horizon but that's neither here nor there.]
10. [I'm actually at a loss for #10, I've seen a fair amount of anime by now and liked most of it, but when I'm thinking about this meme I want some particularly impactful stuff rather than things I'm going to forget in a few years. That said, it's probably a tie between Dragonball (the entirety of the franchise) since it was also one of my initials growing up in the 90s and 00's with YTV, and Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagan for re-stimulating my anime phase. Hooray for over the top screaming that really brings out the passions.]
Tagging: chooseyourally, griffon-riding-tactics, gentlemanly-tactics, tactician-hydroxy, and koixchan
[And this is where I'm going to rant on something for a bit.]
Oh, and before I forget, I really like Silver Spoon too. Sorry about that segway, back to the rant.
I can't think of many Western stories I've read or seen where such passion is matched and I feel like that's a product of the societies we're bred in (well, duh? Also, don't quote me on this as my knowledge of proper Eastern culture is probably paper thin). But seriously, I feel like we're so constantly taught to keep our emotions in check and that we shouldn't show any hint of happiness or sadness lest they distract us from our duties; that if we do it's considered a weakness. When people get angry, I don't ever hear, "Oh they're angry" I hear "What a spaz", I hear "What a wuss" or "suck it up" or "they're really annoying". I'm pretty guilty of this too sometimes, especially when I'm trying to study and there's a bunch of weaboos shouting at the top of their lungs.
So many characters in Western media are succumbed to the whole stoic thing. Granted there's a few characters I can think of that really show their emotions in some heartbreaking or joyous scenes, but they're few and far between (honestly, I'm having trouble even now coming up with some examples). Adventure Time does a good job of correcting these tropes I feel, which is probably why I like it a lot, but even Finn is still prone to the stoic trope at times.
That's it. Rant's done for now I think. Feel free to send in any asks or what not in some discussion to this post, but send them over to my personal: fitchinup]
[I told aemxpuella if she gave me the graphic I would do the rant. And then she did. And then I took like a month to do it.]
"ROBIN WHY THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE THE GODDAMN LEHRAN'S MEDALLION JUST HANGING THERE LEISURELY ON THE WALL LIKE A PAINTING YOU HAVE A GODDAMN ARTIFACT OF PURE EVIL IN PLAIN SIGHT WHAT IF SOMEONE VISITS YOU AND IS ALL LIKE "OH HEY, WHAT A COOL MEDALION! [I keep seeing all these rad variations on the grandmaster/tactician cloak and I'm just sitting here going, "P'trik, do you want me to do anything special with your cloak?"]
"My what?"
[Your cloak, your tactician's robe/jacket/thing.]
"Does it need mending?"
[Well, I think it's torn or worn out in a few places but otherwise it's okay.]
"Does Cordelia want to do anything to it?"
[Not particularly. Maybe throw it out but she knows how much it means to you.]
"Well then, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?"
[Y'know, I think the only real difference is that yours is a little more blue than a navy or whatever.]
"That's okay, I like blue."
['delia likes blue too.]
"Let's keep it blue."
[Blue-ish. Aye. Do you want it to be more blue?]
"Nah, it might look a little garish."
[What if I tried combining it with your dread fighter attire?]
"Then it'd defeat the purpose of wearing dread fighter attire."
[It'd look kind of cool if I did though.]
"It'd be flappy and silly and too much work. Don't bother. Just give my cloak to Sami. Everytime I see her over here she's all wrapped up in it on the couch asleep."
[I'll ask Snowi about it; I think she's been hankering for that anyway.]
