Aetherflux is a miss for me.
I might buy maybe 5 cards total, and they're almost all cards that are only tangentially related to the core of the set.
I think a lot of why I'm disinterested is how safe the set feels.
I remember Whacky Races, Deathrace 2000 and some more serious takes on the Great American Race. And they were all endurance events, it's about tenacity, engineering and skillful driving as you work to make your car go the fastest across a gruelling track.
I was expecting to be Frankensteining my car together, I was expecting the set to try and go for banger racing 'well we got it moving again, not sure how, but it's working so don't question it.' engineering using the magic of the various worlds.
There's so much potential in the worlds chosen as well. So much. I could be amassing a zombie army to push my chariot faster. I could be smashing my car into my opponents and letting the goblins scramble over and start breaking things.
The game supports so much...
And what I get is a paint by numbers standard set with a dull and slow core mechanic. But don't worry, it's also almost completely un-interactive as well!
At least with the tempt by the ring mechanic I could kill the ring bearer.
I just. This set bores me. It relies on Americana and 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' design philosophy to cover for a lack of innovation. I...yeah.
