late at night, one should not reasonably expect anyone to be awake. of course, there were always the odd ones out that had a reversed schedule for any number of reasons, but at the hour, most people would be at home, asleep.
for one being, both the concept of home and sleep were rather unnecessary. as a ghost -- while he was certainly capable of relaxing -- he wasn't able to sleep. sure, he could mimic the action as well as other human necessities, but it was never more than a forgery. and while he technically had a place to stay that could be called a 'home', as a school legend, hanako felt more comfort in floating around empty hallways.
it was boring, for sure, but at least there was a greater chance of coming across entertainment than at the house.
for many decades, schools had been a great location for tests of courage. everyone knew that. and speaking of which, wasn't that a sound just there?
"well, well~..." no chance taken was no chance gained. although it was dark, it didn't take long to locate the source of the rustling. creeping up on the shadowy figure of an intruder, hanako prepared to strike. he floated above to disappear from sight even if turned around upon.
"it's a bit late for classes, don't you think?" he announced his presence through voice. "i'd be more careful if i were you... you never know what evils lurk in the dark."
