#Repost @af3irmhawaii: Remember our lolas, our grandmothers, who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese Imperial Army during WW2. Their story is part of an even broader story of rape, torture, erasure, and trauma. About 1,000 Filipino girls and women were abducted and sexually enslaved and were a part of about 1/2 a million Asian women forced into rape camps. The sexual trafficking and prostitution of women were established by Imperial Japan for its soldiers. Despite Japan's denial of the lolas' stories and the erasure of this history, the bodies of these women hold the truth of what happened. Their stories shall remain with us. In our fight for justice for all women, we must never forget and we shall continue the fight. What happened to them is a part of what is happening now all over the world: base town prostitution in the Philippines, sex tourism tied to the military in Hawai'i, the murder of Jennifer Laude, the many incidences of rape perpetrated by the US military across the world, etc. . #MalayaLolas #NeverthelessShePersisted #StillPersisting #FuckYourComfort #YourMilitaryStartedTheseBrothels #WomensHistoryMonth #AF3IRMHawaii
