In Defence of A Feast for Crows : Jaime and Cersei
(Spoilers) A lot of people have complained about the repetitiveness of this book. Each character seems to have a little mantra that they keep in their head. For Cersei she continuously reminds herself that she is a lioness. She's beautiful, smart, cunning, and men have always been in love with her. Which is her weapon. Her father arranged marriages based on how pretty she was (and yes family stature but she's always been told how beautiful she was), while Jaime was the son who could do no wrong. Cersei isn't Brienna, she can't fight with a sword. She's terrified of the prophecy and Tyrion. Which makes sense, because she is convinced that Tyrion killed her son, and as we know, he killed her father. So obviously that's a big deal. I do think Cersei is a cunning and smart woman. But I also think she's having a bit of a mental breakdown. Jaime obsesses over Cersei's betrayal. That while he never slept with anyone else, Cersei has been. Which to Jaime is the biggest betrayal. For anyone whose ever been cheated on, you obsess over it. The person, the one they were with, and why you weren't good enough. On top of that he's struggling with vows. How to keep his vow to Catelyn and not fail his duty as a member of the kings guard. So in conclusion, when we have problems, we obsess over them. Obsess over how it happened, what we did, and what to do.
