I really like Kirsch.
I had been thinking, "Man, it must suck having to be the adult all the time," because - unfortunately, that's the role he plays in the hierarchy.
He's the only one that effectively gets to talk back to Kavalier, because A. Kavalier isn't going to listen to anyone anyway and B. Kavalier has nothing to incentivize or threaten him with...
Which is an unseen advantage none of the human adults have. They either mistakenly believe they can get through to Kavalier, or they default to "Well... maybe the rich kid has a point... (especially if I want to keep my life/job)"
So, despite being a machine, with no* emotions - Kirsch's the one who's most capable of being compassionate, or looking at things "objectively" - and he's in the best position to go off-script entirely. Because no one's actually paying attention to him in the first place.
* I don't actually believe that for a second. Muted, maybe. But the opinions and emotional responses are there.
