the end
Death came calling today.
Uninvited. He gave no notice,
nothing to say, “I’m on the way.”
He didn’t knock or introduce his accomplice.
Just came through the door and took a seat.
He watched as I went about my chores.
I offered him a drink, he declined to eat.
“Pressed for time,” he said, “have to call on more.”
When he left, I sighed with relief.
Close call. My heart skipped a beat.
A few weeks later relief gave birth to disbelief.
The condition you have, we cannot treat.
Tie up loose ends, your time is brief.
Life, life! Sweet life,
Show me how I need to live,
bear me back to the midwife.
Who knew you were addictive?
For even contending with sorrow and strife,
I’d rather start over than take forced leave.
I dusted off my list of dreams.
There were precious few I could fulfill.
Regret flowed in gushing streams,
as I contended with this ill.
Until you’re ready to say goodbye
keep your door shut tight.
Slay dragons, touch the sky,
let the fire in your veins burn white, bright.
It’s hard to strike a deal with Death
And Life, she’s a traitor,
She’ll give you up in one easy breath.
And all that stuff you’d put off for later,
It’s gone as soon as you expire,
For later doesn’t exist in the hereafter.

Finding Crowns: Good morning! Today I am very grateful and very inspired after attending the talk by Nawal El Saadawi (On Being a Woman Writer)at #britishlibrary as part of #africawrites . It's been a long time since I've felt that empowered, educated and 'woke'. If you don't know of her - get familiar! The talk came at exactly the right moment in my life as I seek to learn and grow as a being, woman and participant (instead of observer) of the world and of life. 📷 @amaalsaid Model @deedeelirium #africawrites#findingcrowns#photography#colour#green#nature#nawalelsaadawi#london#educate#empower#gratitude#life#sunshine
