I've been checking the other classes in the dance studio for something that I'd be interested in that would justify me getting a membership. I would only need 1 or 2 more classes depending on the number of weeks. When I took the hip hop class, one of my friends said it was more along the lines of afrofusion, so sure let's try it out. I like this teacher too, so that'll make things easier!
I have just enough knowledge of breaking and salsa that some knowledge carried over, but woooow, this is so much more shoulder work. Which I need! And hip hop gives me the body rock/torso work so it's great. :D
Did feel strange when doing the shoulder work to not be moving the legs though, ahaha. I'm so used to my feet working to the beat.
Double-hop beat tho, omg. I definitely cant do that and a move at the same time at the moment!
Sequence was okay for me to follow, but there was several tripping moments, but that's fine. It's my first class and I know the more I go, the more it'll get into my muscle memory.
We partnered up and danced the sequence together. 🥺 Suddenly felt like capoeira, pfft. So much so I immediately double high-fived in greeting, ahah.
The square salsa-ish step, I can do! ….WE DO IT AT -WHAT- SPEED?? A 4 step beat, holy craaaaap.
Teacher split the class in half and we dance facing each other.
Ooooooooooh, now I remember why I liked and didn't like her classes. 🤣 She's really easy to follow, really encouraging, but then having to do it facing an entire group of people Who Are All Watching You. I was so self conscious about so many different things.
Aaaaand then we did a cypher(?) We were all in a circle, did the routine and then one by one went into the circle and danced a bit. I did two new moves. o3ob Which I'm glad for like, not doing breaking moves in an afrofusion class, ahah (aside from when we were doing the little vibing/freestyle sessions at the end of the sequence just before then because I hadn't been thinking about it.)
It feeeels like the regulars aren't used to that because a lot of them also did a few moves and then hopped out.
For once 'use any of the moves we just did in class' actually worked seeing how I have nothing else to think about, but also, OH MY GOD, I DIDN'T HAVE THE MIND WIPE I USED TO AT THAT PHRASE, YESSSS.
Fun class, I'm learning new stuff, so I might keep going since it's an alternative week class :D

When it comes to love and relationships, there is a lot of good, but also a lot of bad. Some people live their best lives in love, others lose themselves due to mistreatment and deception. For those lost, some find themselves and flourish, others are not so lucky. For Ghana/Chicago-based Recording Artist Rie Osei, her experience in a relationship put her in a place that she needed to get out of.…
