Repost @1000blackwomen: "Your smile! Your face! Your hair! Your skin... I mean it's shining. The way you move. You're beautiful and you're black. You must know that you're beautiful, right." This monologue was delivered with such charm and verve by John Kley, 26, (@cosmicpharaon) as I was on the way home from my hairdresser that I didn't have time, as a feminist, to object to being approached in such a cheeky way on the street. I could only return his dazzling smile and think: "Damn, I should have tipped my hairdresser more" and "Glad to to see that brothers still got game". Even the word 'move' was accompanied by him miming the movement of a very bodacious woman, who probably doesn't resemble me in the least. He then offered me a cola from a stash he had bought in the supermarket - "It's hot and this will refresh you" and we began to talk about black power starting with his tattoos. That's Malcolm on his lower arm, the goddess Nefertiti on his bicep, N.W.A on his chest "I got this even before the film came out" and Brooklyn for his American father. His mother is from Cape Verde, and he was born and brought up in Spain. John told me that soon he is moving to Barcelona where he is working as model - "We've got a little community up there". As we parted he gave me a kiss on the hand and on both cheeks. Yeah, brothers still got game.
