AFROPUNK 2019
Afropunk Brooklyn is my yearly ritual. I’ve gone every year for almost a decade now. It’s a refuge from the everyday world for 2 glorious days. Black excellence and creativity are exemplified in its many forms. There are critics, even those of the black diaspora, that try to diminish the beauty of this wonderful event. Some say it’s straying too far from its roots. Others says it’s a fashion show. Some of the art and culture intelligentsia decry that it’s become too mainstream. Well I say to all of them, we are very happy that you don’t attend. We do NOT welcome any toxic and disparaging energy. So stay in your negative hole and we will celebrate our positive energy with like minds. We are Afropunk and we are here to stay. August 2019, Afropunk BK, Commodore Barry Park.
