Fairy Tale Ending
“So… Sorry about the fairy tale, this happily ever after.” Karlach looked at the barren wasteland before them, where blood literally trickled from the ground into the Styx. The high pitched screams of imps added to the dreadfulness of it all. “Do you feel tricked? I wouldn’t blame you. I do get confused for a princess a lot.” She added, gesturing at her scarred, toned body and her bloody worn armor with a wry smirk. Her eyes only glanced at Astarion for a moment, as if she was afraid to read his expression.
His tone carried no note of regret, nor fear. If anything, he sounded wickedly excited. His unprompted giggle only made it seem more so. “Hm. I did think you were my knight in shining armor. Turns out you’re truly my barbarian in rags.” He looked at her, somewhat longingly. He’d almost lost her. “Same difference, my love.”
“Hey, watch it. I made an effort here.” Her engine revved at the endearing words her beloved vamp chose. Her wry smile relaxed into an honest one. Perhaps the most honest she’d shared with him. She continued. “Do you know how hard it was to find clothes that wouldn’t just burn off?”
“Oh dear. What a sight to behold before a painful, brutal death…” Astarion looked over to her dreamingly, his fangs visible. He caught sight of her smile. To him, it seemed to carry beauty enough to balance the horror of the Hells… He would probably never tell her that.
“Well, it did give me the advantage a few times…” She cleared her throat as soon as Astarion frowned - but also smirked. She was sure he’d ask her about it later, and she would be right. “These… are what stuck.” She motioned at her favorite rags wrapping her body. “Nothing like your fancy boy garb there, but at least it covers the - erm - important bits.”
“And thanks for that. People already ogle you as it is.” Astarion came across as jealous - and he meant it.
“People?”
“Never mind.” Hells if he would mention that flirty smith to her again.
“Oi. Eyes up here, soldier.”
“I know.” He did not look up.
“…Pervert.” Karlach was smiling a very different smile now. Her engine got a bit louder, the glow slowly shifting in color.
Astarion returned the grin, his unashamedly dripping with all the bad intentions he had. “Likewise.”
“…Quick one?” They hadn’t even started and Karlach was breathless.
“Oh no, darling. Let’s take our sweet time. I want our new pals to notice our absence…”

Notes: In this, Karlach and Astarion (maybe some other companions, who knows) have descended into Avernus. It is supposed to be set soon after they arrive, but still later than the Avernus epilogue cinematics and the imminent fight that follows.
It is implied here that Astarion and Karlach have met some people (I have in my head who at least a couple of them are - they are existing characters in the Forgotten Realms lore and are tied to Zariel), and that they are staying together with them - at least momentarily. I imagine one of these characters appeared and helped them during the fighting with the imps, and HellSpawn (awn) tagged along with them, maybe were even introduced to some others not-so-evil figures in Avernus.
Lore-wise, Avernus has some fortified locations, even if most of the land is a barren warfield. It is a place obviously ruled by devils, but not all devils are loyal to Zariel. There are some mentions of taverns, or tavern-like locations. I imagine they found themselves in or near one of these places.
Its an honest to god tragedy that cg of Saeray is tied to one of his most heartbreaking bad ends bc real talk? Easily my favorite look on him. The light pink waistcoat and pants, the black rose, buttons, and glove details, the swept bangs? God tier.
Actually if you let him undo the collar on that shirt and move the rose corsage (The shirt collar is tight with the rose right at his neck, because he's trapped all over again. Clever, Cheritz. Heartwrenching, but clever) I can imagine it being a formal outfit he wears to future RFA fundraisers?
Or maybe im just desperate to have this outfit in a positive light bc im weak for light colored suits lmao
This is one the worst endings you can give Saeran Choi. Why? Because unlike in Ray Route when you team up with Rika to create a Puppet Savior, you're well aware of what Saeran wants and needs after a long two months and some change of knowing him and loving him as a free man. Yet, you throw his life and needs out the window the second Rika offers a reality where you're not separated from Saeran and he gets to live with you. You don't care about what he wants in this timeline. You care about what you want and the easiest way to get it.
You go and subjugate him to a living hell as a love puppet since you know he'll do whatever you think is right even if it's wrong for him. The worst part in all that? Saeran will burn and suffer for you if this is what makes you happy. He's dead inside. That's the reason why there is a black rose on his collar. It is a significant mark of death. He is dead inside and will only live to please you. He's not happy and he won't ever be happy in this timeline.
He is, for all intents and purposes, dead and numb to what's happening to him... for the sake of giving you what you want.
You trade what he wants away for a fantasy life Rika sold you and the worst part about that is you knew him so deeply and truly and that didn't even matter anymore. That's what makes this worse to me. You didn't know him that well when it came to the path you can take to make him the False Savior. You had no idea of what life he wanted apart from the mess you heard from Ray and Suit Saeran's lips. But, this path right here?
You knew him and you damned him to this horrible fate despite everything he dreamed of. You helped remove the chains from his throat in Magenta only to put them back on in V's mountainside villa.
Being rude to Rika is what makes me happy in life :)
