After fandom is like 50 shades of grey fans. "you didn't read the book!" "he changed in the last book, he had a Sad Past!" "we know it's abusive but they are better in the end!" same excuses
Hmm I wonder why? Is it because After is literally known as another Fifty Shades of Grey except it’s set in college without the bdsm and the main audience are teenagers? I don’t think the apple falls far from the tree.
But on top of all that they still refuse to listen to what anyone has to say, even when people say they have read the books and noticed the toxicity. They always use the same recycled arguments and have been for almost five years, it’s so exhausting and old...yet since day one Anna Todd has encouraged them.
This one user on wattpad was reading after and pointing out all the logical fallacies and problems with the grammar and spelling and stuff, and everyone started attacking this person even though they were voicing their opinions very calmly. One fan even threatened to beat the person with a brick. They saw someone having a different opinion to them as threatening but couldn't see that they were harassing someone. Terrible fandom
I think that’s an understatement. The fandom on wattpad is very…vicious. You can’t point out anything negative about the After series without the fans jumping down your throat with harassment such as cursing you out or even threats. Sadly, they’ve always acted that way. But I thought by now they would have matured, obviously they haven’t and they still lack scruples. What I will never understand is that Anna claims to be against bullying yet when her fans do it to people who criticize her works she turns the other way - and I’ve seen her do it when her fans were attacking someone criticizing After and she only responded to a few of her fans, ignoring the harassment and threats. That fandom is so atrocious. Their behavior is horrific.
I was just scrolling through afterisabuse and I wanted to share this for the people saying that reading a book isn't going to make people abusive or be abused... as many of you know, when I was growing up, my father abused me (from what I remember, it was ages 5-16 and then he left home when I was almost 17). I thought what he did was totally normal and, even though I didn't like it, I felt like I had to take it. I read books and watched movies when I was growing up about girls in abusive relationships (either with their boyfriends or fathers) and whatnot and I thought "ok my relationship with him is like this, that's normal... suck it up and deal with it" and it wasn't until I was 15 (10 years after the abuse began) when I started hinting to people (especially my mom) that something was wrong and it wasn't until after my father abandoned me (age 17) that I told my mom flat out what he did and how it affected me. I now am so mentally scarred that I see a man and I legit cringe... I have depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, PTSD, suicidal thoughts/actions, and I self harm all because of the horror i faced growing up with my father. I have anxiety and panic attacks on the daily because of honestly really dumb things because my brain was taught to be scared of certain things (ex: if a door closes too loud, I legit have a panic attack) it's shit guys like honestly media can do so much harm to girls and guys growing up... if you get that idea ingrained in your head that abusive actions are okay and it becomes a normal thing for you. no one deserves to be abused in any way and getting people to stop romanticizing abuse and abusive relationships is a way to start lessening the amount of people that go through these situations.
Eu te amo tanto, Tess! ❤️
Hey guys! There’s a petition on change.org to stop After from becoming a movie.
If you hate the fanfic as much as i do, it’d be awesome if you could take just 5 minutes to go to the website and sign it. It’ll only take 2 seconds to do so if you’re already registered on change.org. :)
Anna Todd loves 50 Shades of Gray... Why am I not surprised?
