okay i'm not hating on you or anything, but why waste your time getting so heated about something that isn't even real, and don't say "its manipulating girls into thinking abusive relationships are okay" or "young naive girls are obsessing over an abusive 'love story'" also Hardin/harry in After doesn't portray Harry as a bad person because Hardin/harry is loosely based on him, meaning that Hardin/harry is only based on Harry as of looks, only. this is something stupid to get mad over.
I don’t think you understand how powerful fiction can be. It’s nothing to underestimate. Fiction has and will continue to impact our world. Without fiction, especially Science-Fiction, we probably wouldn’t have touch-screen phones, tablets or the technological advancement we have made with computers, along with making 3D television possible.
After, in this case, has in fact impacted many young and impressionable girls. The majority of these girls have no proper concept of what a real relationship is supposed to be yet, and Todd has shaped a false “ideal” relationship for them. Domestic violence is already a major issue, and it’s worrisome to see abusive relationships being encouraged as acceptable and admirable. Todd continues to ignore and refuses to acknowledge the fact her young fans are fantasizing about having their own “Hardin” one day. I have seen so many girls say they wish to have an abusive man like him, and it’s concerning. Me, and many others who are Anti-After don’t want these girls to grow up with the false-narratives that “Anyone can change” or “Every relationship is worth fighting for”. Those are two toxic ideas that have been fed to these naive girls, and it’s unlikely that all of them will come to learn not to admire an abusive relationship. If Todd continues her shenanigans, most of them will find themselves with an abusive man and will find out the hard way of the realism of relationships and that abusive partners can be just as or more dangerous than Hardin.
Now on to Harry. It doesn’t matter if he was used for his “looks”, what matters is he is a real person. A celebrity with a good public image he has to maintain, which has been taken advantage of, slandered and defamed. Harry could sue for libel slander if he wanted, but unfortunately he’s too nice. Scarlette Johansson sued an author for how negatively he portrayed her in his book. People who have no idea of Harry’s real personality have admitted to thinking he was an abusive douche. Fans before they joined the fandom thought Harry was actually like that in real life. It’s not uncommon. Yes, there are many fan fictions where Harry is portrayed as a monster, but breaking that fourth wall by publishing it is wrong and gives the person the right to sue the author for libel slander.
