Know whether any of your friends or relatives live in your new city who could help you with such information regarding schools and other services as well.
I am at all sorts of loose ends today. I still have that feeling of needing to do something left over from finals week... and it’s a bit compounded by the fact that there is actually plenty I need to do:
APARTMENT CLEANING AND ORGANIZATION, which was put on backburner to school and kids, really needs sorted.
Had a THESIS PROSPECTUS meeting with my advisor and it left me with a general sense of direction, but upon further reflection also no real idea how to get from here to that place she’s pointing at over yonder.
Then there’s PhD APPLICATIONS and needing to get that search organized, figured out, and going in earnest before summer courses start up in a week.
The result has been me occassionally sifting through a box of stuff and sorting it out, then sitting down and playing a random mindless app game for a bit.

Ias organizes her papers and things.
After sorting out folders and magazines, I was still left with a huge amount of notebooks and papers.
I managed to sort it all into a number of categories, one for just papers, one for stuff I was going to put into storage, two for notebooks that I need to look through, and two for empty notebooks that I am promising myself I will use up before I go buy new ones.
It was at this time that I realized I wouldn’t finish before February did. So, I decided that I was going to sort the papers, because that seemed like the most crucial. The other stuff I put in two different boxes, and I hope to be able to look through maybe a couple of notebooks per week to throw things out, decide what to keep etc etc.
Sorting papers I did however. The first pile is before I started, the second pile is the size of it once I had thrown away stuff I wasn’t going to keep, and the third is divided into two categories, one for storage because I might want it, ad one that will go into my binder, because I might need it soon. Some of that last is study papers I’m not currently needing, bills, receipts, current projects etc etc.
Overall, pretty happy with what I accomplished, I filled my entire recycling bin, and I do feel more organized, despite not getting as far as I would’ve wanted this month.

The second thing to sort where those folders of different types, but also some smaller thinner notepads and loose sheets of paper.
I used this big paper organizer to put everything put the paper folders in, and it swelled to as thick as it could get, so I might consider taking something out, but we’ll see.
It fit all neatly into my bottom desk drawer where I planned six months ago I would put it but never got around to...

So, the first thing I began working on was magazines. As you can see in the first picture, there was quite a lot...
I started, of course, with dividing it up, into 1. magazines I still liked to read for certain topics, 2. comic books. 3. magazines I had saved for specific inspiration.
Part of the third category was a bunch of magazines where the only thing I was really interested in was floorplans of houses, so I actually tore those out, and threw away the rest of the magazine.
In the final shot, I had four categories. One for putting in storage because I know I’m not going to read it in the next six months, one for keeping as reading material in the apartment, one for the tore out pages that I’m going to file properly, and one that I’m giving away to charity because who knows someone might buy it.
